  • 3SYO #94: World Series Soler Vortex with Kevin McCaffrey

    05/11/2021 Duração: 33min

Well, that World Series turned out to be pretty good! Pretty pretty pretty...pretty good! If you could ignore most of the stuff surrounding the teams playing in it, that is. As continuing the 3SYO postseason tradition, I'm joined by OG friend of the pod Kevin McCaffrey to break down the major events in Games 3-6 of the Fall Classic. We pick up where last week's episode left off toasting Series MVP Jorge Soler and cringing our way through the unforgivably racist tomahawk chop that provided a soundtrack to his otherwise magnificent at bats. Then we celebrate the Max Fried and what he accomplished for starting pitchers everywhere by proving that they...you know...still exist. Finally, we ponder what might have been with Ian Anderson's five no-hit innings in Game 3 and conclude that even though lifting him was probably the right thing to do, sometimes the right thing to do still sucks. • 3SYO #93: Cheating v. Racism with Adam Mamawala

    29/10/2021 Duração: 33min

Can a World Series be exciting with the games themselves being one-sided? That's where we find ourselves with the 2021 Fall Classic. As per 3SYO tradition, Adam Mamawala (Away Games Podcast) returns to break down Games 1 & 2 of the Series and there are no shortage of storylines even without much drama between the white lines. We toast the badassery of Charlie Morton throwing 10 pitches on a broken leg, admire Jorge Soler's studly magnificence, and wonder whether Martín Maldonado's RBI single was a sign of the apocalypse. Plus we let any lingering 2003 bitterness go in tribute to Dusty Baker, especially as we've learned more about his decades of empathy and allyship with Glenn Burke and LGBTQ ballplayers. • The Trans Sporter Room Ep107 -- Avery Cordingley and Mason LeFebvre of Team Trans Hockey

    27/10/2021 Duração: 01h02min

In 2019, a group of transgender hockey players from across North America turned what started as emails written about a dream into a team -- Team Trans. They met up in Boston to play a select squad from Boston Pride Hockey, and what happened was a series of two hard-fought games. The impact, the inspiration and the symbol of a group of seventeen players was priceless. In November, Team Trans plans to head back to the ice. The venue will be the stomping grounds of "Badger Bob" Johnson -- Madison, Wisconsin. Karleigh Webb sits down with Team Trans center Avery Cordingley and goalie Mason LeFebvre for a conversation about what this team and this sport has meant in their lives as trans athletes and as people. • Jenna Burkert just won a medal at the World Championships. Next up: The Olympics - Five Rings To Rule Them All

    25/10/2021 Duração: 33min

Jenna Burkert didn't want to be the stereotype of a female wrestler. Growing up always wrestling boys, she saw how people portrayed girls and women in the sport as masculine and, yes, possibly gay or lesbian. As Burkert has come out of the closet she has embraced who she is and found love with her wife. She's also found acceptance not just across her sport, but in rural Michigan, where she went to high school. Recently she won a bronze medal at the World Championships, and now she's got her eyes on a medal at the Paris Summer Olympics in 2024. You can find Jenna Burkert on Twitter and Instagram. • 3SYO #92: The Atlanta Curse? with D.Gil

    22/10/2021 Duração: 28min

This episode was recorded immediately after Game 5 of the NLCS which means that D.Gil was hoping it would be a Braves pennant-clinching celebration. As you can tell by the title, that didn't happen. Instead, we dive headlong into D.Gil's wounded Atlanta sports fan psyche and wonder if the Braves could possibly blow a 3-1 lead to the Dodgers in consecutive years. Along the way, we express our doubts about the team's leadership, suggest Brian Snitker could lose his job over another epic collapse, and castigate Max Fried for a horrific pitching performance in a potential clinching game. All this for a team that's still leading the series. Yikes. At least the Braves already clinched the title of most racist chant in sports.
