Agile Toolkit Podcast

I recently attended the Gartner Mid-Size conference with Cyber Korp.  Cyber Korp provides Agile Development, Delivery and Transformations to organizations.  I helped them deliver a software project over two days of the conference using requirements that had been gathered from one of the IT executives at the conference.  In this episode I speak with several folks from Cyber Korp and Paul Smith of ATA Airlines about his experience participating in a Micro Agile Project.  Like so many of the Executives at the conference, Paul had not been exposed to Agile Development before the conference.  He was a great customer and dove right into the 3x5 cards over breakfast on the first day and was gracious enough to show up for two mini UAT sessions where he got to give feedback and create new stories for the backlog. Cyber had set up a Live Feed to their Agile Development Center in Chicago so that we could monitor progress and communicate with the development team there.  Please enjoy the podcast.  I had a great time chat

If you have not heard Pollyanna Pixton you are in for a treat.  Not only does she have the best Cold War Super Hero name of all the agilists she is a great speaker.  Enjoy this presentation that she gave to the Washington DC APLN chapter last year.This has been sitting on my hard drive for a long time and it needed to get out.  Please do not be confused about the her reference to the Agile Conference it is a reference to last years conference.  The Leadership Summit did sell out and you can hear some of the sessions that I recorded and released last year.I hope to get 2006 fully published by the time the Agile2007 conference comes around.  -bob payne

I talked with Bruce Williams about the Ruby community near the Boulder, living in snow, the RailsEdge, Rails Plugins and UI Frameworks.  We talked about the tools that are available to Ruby and Rails developers and how these combined with attitude within the community may have created the sweet spot that Rails now occupies.  He also mentions that conferences should blur the line between speaker and attendee.Bruce is a great guy and I think you will enjoy this interview.- bob payne

I spoke with Jim after his Rake Talk at the RailsEdge.  If this is not your favorite build tool now it will be.  Jim is the creator of Rake and RubyGems package management for Ruby.  These two tools have made my life a lot easier and if you have not used them, then you are probably not using ruby.  Jim talks about using Rake and db migrations with a recent java project.  I also spoke with Jim about ruby test driven development.  It was great to see someone do tiny step TDD in a presentation that was not an eXtreme Programming demonstration.Jim is the first of my guests to say "Your the AgileToolkit Guy ... Joe and I talk about his work with XP Day around the globe.  We also enjoyed some excellent buffalo jerky from the farmers market in Minneapolis.  Joe has is the publisher of JUnit Recipes.  This book is a must on the bookshelf of any agile Java programmer.I'm sure I will have more interviews with JB in the future so...Stay Tuned.-bob

Steve talks to me about his research and finds some very interesting agile analogies in war fighting, traditional project success and cultures of success.  Steve is a great speaker and I personally like this podcast quit a bit and I'm sure you will enjoy it as well.-bob

Barg and David are friends from DC and I wish I had gone to their workshop since I have an interest in movie making.  They have both presented papers on Agile in the Government space and this is a nice departure from that important but somewhat dry topic.Hopefully I will soon get all of the Agile 2006 podcasts out of the way so that I can focus on Agile 2007.-bob

I spoke with Dave Thomas at the RailsEdge in Reston Virginia.  We talk about his new book Agile Web Development With Rails and the Erlang book that is in the pipeline for the Pragmatic Bookshelf. The most striking feature of this podcast is the range of topics that we discuss.  The second half of the discussion explores music, photography, monoculture and education.  I was tired when I recorded this and you can hear it.  Fortunately Dave was engaging enough to make this a decent podcast.Enjoy-bob payne

I finally got a chance to talk with Ron Jeffries and Chet Hendrickson at the Simple Design and Testing conference last year.  I have known Ron for a while now but this conference was the first time that I got to talk with Chet.  They both enjoyed the conference and I hope to see them at the next SDT conference if we ever get around to organizing one.-bob payne

I had the chance to drop in on the NFJS Fall tour in Reston VA.  This panel discussion covers a wide variety of topics.  Mostly related to Java and Ruby but with a little simplicity and Agile thrown into the mix.It was a fun discussion and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.-bob
