One On One: Interviews, Features, And Analysis

With Fordham football cruising into their bye week, there is hardly time for a break for the Rams' players and coaches. Coach Joe Moorhead found some time to answer listener questions for One on One. Players are working more in this year's scheduled week off to stave off the rust they may have picked up a year ago. Coaches are recruiting and brushing up the small schematic flaws they've spotted in past weeks. The announcers are also busy, as Nick Logerfo joins me for a look back at the first half of the season. Perfect in the Patriot League and 6-1 overall, the Rams are still in position to succeed in nearly all of their preseason goals. 25 years ago yesterday, Game 3 for the 1989 World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics was interrupted by an earthquake, and Al Michaels was there to announce it all. American tennis coach and International Tennis Hall of Famer Nick Bollettieri (@NickBollettieri) joined Matt Moro and Drew Casey to discuss his new book, Changing the Game, and about what has occured in the U.S. Open since last speaking with him last Saturday. 

Matt Moro and Drew Casey had the privilege to speak to Spencer Patten, a 22 year military veteran who was deplyoed seven times and was chosen to be our New York Giants' beat reporter for a day in their final preseason game against the New England Patriots.  They discussed what the experience was like for Spencer, what his favorite parts were, and he gave his predictions for the Giants this season. 

Hank Gola of the New York Daily News joins Kenny Ducey and Drew Casey on this week's One on One on site at the Barclays in Paramus, New Jersey. Hank dishes on Rory McIlroy, the first three rounds so far, and previews Sunday's action.

Peter Mele, executive director of the PGA Tour, joined Kenny Ducey and Drew Casey to give us insight into what goes on behind the scenes. From describing what the tour did differently this year to previewing what lies ahead in this tournament, Mele provided a different view than the fans get to see. USA Today's NASCAR and auto racing writer Nate Ryan (@nateryan) talked with Matt Moro and Matt Rosenfeld about the Tony Stewart incident, Kevin Ward Jr.'s death and the changes already being made to racing as a result.

WFUV's James Decker joined Kelly Kultys and Kristian O' Hara on One on One to talk about John Andariese winning the Curt Gowdy Award at the Basketball Hall of Fame earlier this week. James spoke with Marv Albert, Mike Breen, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, former NBA Commissioner David Stern and Hall of Fame president John Doleva about Johnny Hoops at the event. 

Dennis Dodd (@dennisdoddcbs), CBSSports.com's senior college football columnist, joined Kelly Kultys and Kristian O' Hara on One on One to discuss the new proposed rules in college sports, the ruling in the Ed O' Bannon case, what it would mean for the Big Five conferences, the other confernces and the NCAA in general. 

New York Daily News' Hank Gola (@NYDNHankGola) talks the PGA Championship on One on One. He reveiws the second round, takes a look at what has gone on in the third round already and discusses McIlroy's, Mickelson's and Wood's tournaments.   

Kris Venezia and Kenny Ducey sat down with Texas Rangers' broadcaster Eric Nadel, the Ford C. Frick Award winner. 

With the sun shining in Cooperstown, New York, three men who have devoted much of their lives to baseball were honored at Doubleday Field on Saturday.  Eric Nadell, a play-by-play broadcaster for the Texas Rangers, received the Ford C. Frick Award, and the honor is given to those who demonstrate an excellence in broadcasting. Roger Angell, a regular contributor for The New Yorker on baseball, received the J.G. Taylor Spink Award for his contributions to writing about America's Pastime.  Joe Garagiola, a former baseball player and broadcaster, received the Buck O'Neil Lifetime Achievement Award. He was given the award for his lifelong commitment to baseball, including his efforts to end the use of smokeless tobacco.  For the full Garagiola interview click here. 

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, has been buzzing over the weekend. In the scrum, WFUV's Nick Logerfo, Kenny Ducey and Kris Venezia caught up with Bob Costas of NBC Sports and the MLB Network. He spoke about what's special with this year's Hall of Fame class that includes Joe Torre and Tom Glavine. Costas also told us his thoughts on the steroid era, and he even had time to give us his opinion on MLB's use of instant replay.
