We adopt our heroes throughout our lives. This choice reflects our emerging values and character. We can discard these avatars and adopt new heroes in order to help us better "tune" how we learn, lead, and listen. Try asking someone "Who do you think are my heroes?"

Bob Hill is the guru behind the Ntrinsx assessment. I first connected with Bob several years ago. I was fascinated by the Ntrinsx assessment and flew out to St. Charles to talk. We had a couple days of conversation that benefited both of us, and we realized that, as different as we were stylistically (vis a vis the Ntrinsx assessment), we shared a passion for learning and strongly believed that conversation is the most flexible, powerful, and useful mode for learning, especially in a time of "do more with less."

Neutral Listening is an essential skill for professional (and personal) leadership development. It models trust and courage, encourages others to be candid, and gives us access to others' perspectives. Fania Gordon, a recent participant in a Learning Chaos leadership session, tells how she used the technique in her yoga intruction, for physical neutral listening. It's very cool, indeed!

Fear is the great impediment to creative learning and leadership. When we're afraid, our thoughts turn away from curiosity. For a leader, who needs learning as a necessary tool, setting fear aside is a critical skill.
