  • Houston Texans Podcast: Tennessee Titans 2019 Season Preview

    20/08/2019 Duração: 01h04min

The AFC South season preview begins with a look at the Tennessee Titans. Tom Gower of Football Outsiders, and author of the Titans chapter of the 2019 Football Outsiders Almanac, stops by the studio to discuss Derrick Henry’s breakout 2018 season and if it will continue in 2019, what happened to the Titans’ offense under Matt LaFleur, if they will miss starting guards Josh Kline and Kevin Pamphile, what Marcus Mariota’s future may hold, and if the defense can be above average in 2019.  Happy listening and don’t forget to TITAN UP.  Learn more about your ad choices. • Houston Texans Podcast: NFC North 2019 Season Preview

    19/08/2019 Duração: 01h11min

I know somewhere in Chicago where we can stay for a little, I hope this isn’t a burden, thanks for having us over. It’s crazy there are just like a million people living in Detroit eating square pizza and trying not to be associated with Kid Rock and Eminem. My valves are clogged with bratwurst and brandy as I try to find myself in a cascading sea of neon orange hunting outfits. Mayonnaise is good and can be slathered on everything dontcha know.  This episode is discussing Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, and Minnesota. Can Mitchell Trubisky make up the difference for a Bears’ defense that is sure to regress? Does Matt Patricia now have enough defensive talent to run his super genius defense and carry a run heavy offensive attack? Will Matt LaFleur bring out the best in Aaron Rodgers, or is he just the mastermind behind a crappy offensive scheme as seen in Tennessee last year? Are the Vikings going to put out another top ten defense, and can Kirk Cousins thrive in a play action outside zone offense? These are the

    15/08/2019 Duração: 01h19min

The whoops and whistles are as neverending as the sea of traffic. I can see rundown manors covered in swaths of moss, and hear the crickets and the growling of the gators. My boat shoes are on that perfectly compliment my pink Oxford button up. And I’m now 450 pounds, my entire wardrobe is Tommy Bahama, every meal is steak and cigars.  That’s right, we are talking Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans, and Tampa Bay. In this preview we discuss Atlanta’s defense continuing to hold them back, Carolina’s chances if Cam Newton is healthy this season, if Drew Brees’s arm will be floppy once again in 2019 after a disappointing end to the 2018 season, and my devastating Tampa Bay Buccaneers prediction. I’m sorry. I’m a coward. Their schedule is really tough.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • Houston Texans Podcast: FINE, We Will Talk About The Houston Texans

    15/08/2019 Duração: 49min

Oh, my heart is wretched and writhing over the Jadeveon Clowney trade rumors and the Houston Texans’ waterbed offensive line that’s already leaking.  For tonight’s episode, BFD and I will discuss that, along with some general Packers-Texans thoughts, Andrew Luck injury news, and we’ll preview the Texans preseason game against the Detroit Lions this Saturday night.  Learn more about your ad choices. • Houston Texans Podcast: NFC East 2019 Season Preview

    12/08/2019 Duração: 01h12min

It’s time to begin.  The 2019 NFL Season beings in three weeks, and to get ready for this 2019 season, before entropy comes in and turns a stable environment into chaos, the NFL season is going to be previewed in podcast form here at Battle Red Blog.  First up it’s the NFC East. Can Dallas’s young defense makeup for the impending regression and are the numbers out of whack because of their pre-Amari trade offense, is there a good team lurking inside of New York’s (G) carapace, should there be Carson Wentz concerns as he gets ready to lead a complete and deep Philadelphia team, and just how bad can Washington’s offense be? REAL BAD.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • Houston Texans Podcast: Camping Tips And Tricks

    24/07/2019 Duração: 01h14min

I have a couple integral camping tips and tricks for you. Always check your map when you reach a trail intersection. When hiking as a group, always wait for the rest of your party at a trail intersection no matter how slow they maybe going. Make sure to leave your trash out in bear country. The wretched stink will drive the animals away. Never bring a stove. It’s a waste of space. The only thing you need to eat are nuts: cashews, almonds, macadamians, pine, brazil, and of course walnuts. Fats, protein, calories, what more can you need.  Houston Texans training camp begins this Thursday. I’m going camping in Wyoming on Friday. To get you ready for this tremendous occasion, Diehard Chris and I will be previewing the Texans’ training camp and preseason, and additionally, we will talk summer movies and film recommendations with our resident cinephile. Topics include: the Texans’ offensive line combinations, position battles, Brennan Scarlett’s Pro Football Focus Rating, season excitement, and more Midsommar feeli

  • Houston Texans Podcast: Midsummer

    20/07/2019 Duração: 01h11min

After taking the last two months off to relax and read books and sit in the sun scorch like eggs in the skillet it’s coming to an end. The Football Outsiders Almanac is out. Season previews are sprouting like flowers attached to weeds ordaining the sides of the highway. Training camps open next week.  But before all that happens, I have to go to Wyoming and backpack and sleep outside, and then, it will be footballfootballfootballfootball until we circle back around the sun to that old spot again. On this week’s episode we gossip about the newest NFL news, discuss the Jadeveon Clowney contract situation, Tyreek Hill’s escaping suspension, and Oakland Hardknocks, and after the break it’s a lot of hanging out and summer movie discussion (including some Midsommar spoilers).  Learn more about your ad choices. • Houston Texans Podcast: Houston v. Dallas 2014

    29/06/2019 Duração: 01h09min

There are certain games we hold deeply in our heart. Whether it was because of the game itself, a metaphor for something greater, a dominant performance from our favorite player, a bookmark for a season or time we’ll fail to forget, there are games that will forever be more valuable to us than others. Houston v. Dallas 2014 is one of them for me. I completely forgot about Houston v. New York (G) 2014. Where was I? Who am I? What happened? A quick refresh reminded me of Shane Lechler throwing a fake punt to Alfred Blue to open my own personal gates of hell, DeAndre Hopkins’s one handed catch ruined by an illegal formation, J.J. Watt’s two point conversation stop, and Victor Cruz torching Kareem Jackson on slant routes...five years ago. Houston v. Dallas is different. I can sit it all clean and clear. I remember the Ebola scare and hazmat suits. J.J. Watt missing Tony Romo once, and missing him again to lead to a Terrance Williams touchdown. Brandon Brooks and Derek Newton. Rolando McClain sideline to sidelin

  • Battle Red Radio: The Belle Of The Ball

    20/06/2019 Duração: 01h02min

Father. Son. Uncle. Head Coach. General Manager. It's All On Me. Bill O’Brien is a man of many football professions. He’s the head coach, the play caller, he’s been the offensive coordinator before, he supposedly had final say on all personnel decisions, and now he’s the general manager too. He has quite the social media profile. Today on the podcast, Luke and I discuss the Nick Caserio fallout, what the end goal here is, if O’Brien can handle all of this, if this team will suffer in 2019 because of it, and of course, your listener questions. • Battle Red Radio: Something’s Happening Here, Mr. Jones

    12/06/2019 Duração: 01h03min

I’m still confused. I still don’t get it. The Houston Texans fired Brian Gaine last Friday, and I’m still not entirely sure why. But now, after this episode, I think I do. Tonight on the podcast, Kenneth, BFD, and I try to figure out why the Texans fired him, share our own personal theories, discuss Bill O’Brien’s role in Gaine’s dismissal, and divulge who we like to take over the role for the Houston Texans. • Battle Red Radio: OFF! Season Awards

    01/06/2019 Duração: 01h05min

I found the crawfish. They were in the fridge the entire time. But where did all these flies come from? Why haven’t I felt this way in so long? I must have buried it under the house with all the fat, long hair, and yellow teeth.  For this week’s podcast, we continue to try and be the content creator instead of the aggregator once again. We hand out imaginary awards, not like lame awards, but cool ones. Things like best kiss, best dress, and which third string tight end signing we like the most.  Learn more about your ad choices. • Battle Red Radio: Rankings

    24/05/2019 Duração: 01h10min

Did it matter then, she asked herself, walking towards Bond Street, did it matter that she must inevitably cease completely? All this must go on without her; did she resent it; or did it not become consoling to believe that death ended absolutely? It’s already June, we’ll be dead so soon. For this week’s podcast, as try and be the content creator instead of the aggregator once again. We rank the teams from 32-1, and break it all down.  Learn more about your ad choices. • Battle Red Radio: Recapping The Offseason

    22/05/2019 Duração: 59min

The Texans’ offseason is over. I got one last clump to toss upon its bare and damp grave, and a headstone to roost over it. I gotta chat with bigfatdrunk one last time, to recap exactly what happened these last two months. This is the last time I promise.  Topics include: the resources the Texans had entering the offseason, sifting through the offensive line combinations, if the secondary can be classified as good, the biggest mistakes Houston made, if they did enough, and where they stand as teams start their organized activities.  Learn more about your ad choices. • Battle Red Radio: Is He Good?

    18/05/2019 Duração: 01h12min

The 2019 NFL Offseason is over, unless you consider things like Shane Ray and Michael Floyd signing with the Baltimore Ravens as a continuation of it. I don’t. It’s all going to be depth signings from here on out. Who knows where Ndumakong Suh will sign (probably Los Angeles)? Who knows where Muhamed Wilkerson will sign? What about Danny Shelton? How about I don’t care!  Rather than wait for water to freeze and expand a few times to break the ice off the rock, and for everyone else to find a temporary home, the offseason is now about rambling conversations to fill in the gap until season preview season.  To start that off here we play a parlor game called ‘Is he good or not’? It’s a simple game. You pick a player, and try to decide if he’s any good. This leads to a discussion about players like Jared Goff and Vic Beasley. No Houston Texans are discussed because every player on the Houston Texans is good.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • Battle Red Radio: Honor Roll

    03/05/2019 Duração: 01h11min

There’s a lot of things that are really dumb that we just do. Going to work, buying new clothes, upgrading electronics, scrolling through the phone. Oh, the plagues of postmodern living that have captivated our malodorous distracted souls. There’s a lot of dumb NFL content that we are forced to consume too. Mock drafts, power rankings, and of course draft grades. There’s something soothing about it. Something to read and think about as time keeps going along with the NFL running in parallel.  We continue our valiant attempt to be the content creator and not the consumer. This time we grade each and every draft class in rapid fire fashion starting with the AFC, and then the NFC after the break. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • Battle Red Radio: April Is The Cruelest Month

    01/05/2019 Duração: 01h14min

April is the cruellest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing Memory and desire, stirring Dull roots with spring rain. The 2019 NFL Draft has left people who care about the Houston Texans missing long warm winters, and feeling sharp and splintered. Despite having a first and two second round picks, the Texans didn’t add immediate talent for the 2019 season after sitting on their cap space this offseason. Development. Potential. Eventually. Wasting Deshaun Watson’s rookie contract.  Matt and BFD discuss the Texans draft class, talking specifically about the first round leap frog, Max Scharping’s potential, Lonnie Johnson’s strength and length, a best player available tight end, if that Longhorn can replace Christian Covington, a fullback in 2019, and where the team currently stands.  Learn more about your ad choices. • Battle Red Radio: They Almost Did It

    26/04/2019 Duração: 01h09min

The Texans were so close to adding the perfect pass blocking offensive tackle on their roster. Instead they took the big man Tytus Howard, the developmental pick, when they needed someone who can start right away. I’m mad, but I guess there’s round 2-7 at least or something. I don’t know.  In this episode we discuss the Texans decision to take Tytus Howard, why all the defensive linemen were selected, Kyler Murray #1 overall, and some of our favorite picks.  Learn more about your ad choices. • Battle Red Radio: Crock Pot Season

    19/04/2019 Duração: 01h09min

The draft is here next week. And before the draft, over the course of many days there were many mock drafts, so many mock drafts, and I posted hundreds of mock drafts. Those days are done. Today is the day. I become am the content creator not the aggregator. We mocked a draft of our own, and damn does it feel good.  Matt and Taylor discuss the Russell Wilson contract, briefly talk about the Cowboys and Texans’ schedule, open up the newspaper, and mock a draft.  Learn more about your ad choices. • Battle Red Radio: Greedy Fly

    17/04/2019 Duração: 48min

It’s been sealed in blood. The pick is in. Battle Red Blog decided to select Greedy Williams with the #23 overall pick in the first round in the SB Nation Mock Draft.  Matt and Luke break down why we made the pick we made, why we went cornerback, and why we like Greedy as much as we do.  Learn more about your ad choices.
