  • Houston Texans Podcast: 2021 Week Eight NFL Preview

    29/10/2021 Duração: 01h31min

That northern wind has traveled down to haunt our souls, jostle our bones, and stretch out our brains, opening door for the dark and destructive to have their way. Bright blue and yellow has become black and orange. Latex and blood has taken over. Belly aches and specters are at your door. It’s the most spookiest time of the year. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and his good friend Taylor preview week 8 of the NFL season. Topics include: Joe Flacco shipped back to New York, where Matthew Stafford lands in the MVP rankings, the line required for you to bet on the Texans, TITANING UP, the silly ways Colts took down the 49ers, KEEEENUUUUUUUUM, Ben Roethlisberger compared to a dying elderly, Mike Zimmer transforming the Vikings into a top five pass defense once again, and the Cowboys after a bye. • Houston Texans Podcast: Emptying Out the Mailbag

    28/10/2021 Duração: 01h04min

Over the last three weeks we have received some great questions for BATTLE RED RADIO. Unfortunately, due to time, number of questions, and the infinite number of things to discuss each and every week, we weren’t able to get to them all. The mailbag has been full, like a scene from the Sorcerer’s Stone, and so here we are, all by ourselves rambling in a dark room, answering your beautiful and wonderful questions. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston answers your questions. Topics include: the decision to trade Mark Ingram, if Brandin Cooks can be on the move, Jonathan Greenard’s leap, what we need to see from Davis Mills, the best veteran signed by Nick Caserio, and what’s going on with Tim Kelly’s offense. • Houston Texans Podcast: We All Just Want it to be Good Again

    26/10/2021 Duração: 02h58min

The Houston Texans are 1-6. The things that we saw as issues this past offseason are issues today. Not having a backup plan for Tyrod Taylor, restructuring contracts, drafting a quarterback with their first draft selection in the third round, the decision to move Tytus Howard to guard, Lovie Smith’s Jurassic cover two scheme, the cornerback play, and the horde of veterans who made their way to Houston. Blood lust wasn’t satiated from previous wrongs. The Cardinals won, but it wasn’t by enough. The performance was similar to the week before, except the pass rush was better. The rest? It was about the same. It’s time for something different. Instead of harp on the offensive line struggles, the holes in the zone, and the treehouse Tim Kelly is hiding Davis Mills in, it’s time to stretch our vantage point to the heavens, and take a look at the entirety of the Houston Texans. The culture, where the franchise has been, the previous failings that have come back up again, and the football decisions that got them here

  • Houston Texans Podcast: 2021 Week Seven NFL Preview

    22/10/2021 Duração: 01h17min

This is the big one. This is the one everyone had scrawled red on their planners, and set events for in their virtual calendars. It’s the time when the past and the present collide together into one chaotic and poetic platter of schadenfreude. It’s a revenge game for everyone. For Hopkins, for Watt, for Johnson, and for a fanbase that was stuck watching listless Bill O’Brien game, after listless Bill O’Brien game, who destroyed the entire team by trading for a left tackle, and trading away a Hall of Fame wide receiver. Living in the remnants of his rubble, the only solace is watching Houston’s former greats in different colors, enacting their own revenge against the previous failures they were stuck playing through. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and his good friend Taylor preview Week Seven of the 2021 NFL season. Topics include: the Bengals defense finally meeting Baltimore with defensive talent, Baltimore’s run game finally breaking out, everyone getting their chance to beat Kansas City,

  • Houston Texans Podcast: Sifting Through the Deshaun Watson Rumors

    22/10/2021 Duração: 28min

Since Deshaun Watson shocked the world by requesting a trade from the Houston Texans, the hiring of David Culley and Nick Caserio, his sexual assault allegations, and his decision to head to the facility and sticking to the inactives list, we’ve been waiting for a Watson trade to be made. Phrases like ‘in talks’, ‘have had conversations’, and ‘are listening’ have been used, but this week that changed. Major Houston reporters announced that a Watson trade could come as early as the end of this week. It’s Thursday night. Tomorrow is Friday night. Could this finally be the weekend it finally happens? To help you sort through the newest Watson rumors, Matt Weston and his good friend Taylor, discussed the newest batch of rumors. Topics include: if Watson will be traded at the end of this week, what the Miami Dolphins could offer, other teams who can join in the mix if the Texans hold on, and the fact that there is no deadline. • Houston Texans Podcast: Overwhelmed by the Immensity of Life (Texans-Colts Review)

    18/10/2021 Duração: 01h21min

I’m old, I’m tired, and I’m stupid, and of the three, and most of all, I'm stupid. Yes, I know the Texans lost 31-3 to the Indianapolis Colts, but throughout this episode I said the Colts scored 34 points. After all these years, and all these games, somethings get lost in the wind. You know, like how many games Houston lost in Indianapolis before Bill O’Brien broke the curse, or how many receptions T.Y. Hilton has against them over the years, or which year Mike Vanderjagt nailed a game winning kick with zero seconds left. Carrying about the exact and precise details are for nerds, the ones who miss doing homework. We are big picture thinkers. Sucking in the enormity of everything and exasperating only what matters. Three points isn’t that big of a deal. Understanding Davis Mills’s skillset is what does. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and BFD, review Houston’s 3-34 3-31 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Topics include: what is Davis Mills good at, Laremy Tunsil’s absence having zero impact on t

  • Houston Texans Podcast: 2021 Week Six NFL Preview

    15/10/2021 Duração: 01h43min

We know how it's going to be. The Texans are going to be 1-7. Then Tyrod Taylor will be healthy, but by then, the ones who fought and bickered about everyone being too negative, for not giving Nick Caserio a chance, that this rag tagged band of veterans would actually be good, will have logged off a long time ago. They'll come back next free agency period, and next NFL Draft, once the players who left the Texans are suddenly terrible, and the ones who join the team, are suddenly incredible. Then we will crawl our way back through the summer and do it again, until the Houston Texans are good again. This is the point. Football is really good even when the Texans aren't, and the podcast is still good when the Texans aren't. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and his good friend Taylor preview Week Six of the 2021 NFL season. Topics include: Davis Mills replicating his break out performance, Carson Wentz disaster artist, the Ravens running an offense without a run game, reminiscing on Justin Herbert

  • Houston Texans Podcast: Scar Tissue (Texans v. Patriots Review)

    10/10/2021 Duração: 01h58min

This season they once again gave it to New England. New England’s defensive backs popped off tackles. They hit a flea flicker. Damien Harris fumbled into the endzone. Mac Jones threw an interception that was too far inside to Lonnie Johnson Jr. Everything changed after one terrible decision. Rather than punt the ball, they faked the fake punt, and Cameron Johnston rocked one off his own teammate. New England was given easy field position. They scored. Then they continued to score until a late field goal finally gave them a lead. Johnston’s foot didn’t meet the ball, it met a sarcophagus, that cracked open and unleashed a green garish curse onto the Texans football team. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and Diehard Chris, review Houston’s 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots. Topics include: David Culley’s many snafus, the fake-fake punt, CBS’s MK Ultra fall television lineup jingles, if Davis Mills sold snake oil today, the Texans not being able to run the ball against a terrible run defense

  • Houston Texans Podcast: 2021 Week Five Listener Mailbag

    08/10/2021 Duração: 19min

It's your questions answered for this week's listener request live. Topics include: what Houston should do in the draft if the pick at #3 overall and the best non-quarterback and quarterback are off the board, the decision to move Desmond King to outside cornerback, and if Houston trade should Laremy Tunsil. • Houston Texans Podcast: 2021 Week Five NFL Preview

    08/10/2021 Duração: 01h36min

I know how it’s going to go. After all offseason of clamoring for Nick Caserio, the veterans he signed, his draft class, and the trades he made, it will disappear. Texans fans will head to their caves. Waiting for the NFL Draft. While we are left in the rubble, digging through the ruins. Here week in and week out watching Davis Mills complete one pass in an entire half, and quarterbacks complete every pass. Then we’ll do it again next year, and maybe the next year, and I guess this is just the way it is, and it will never end. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and his good friend Taylor preview Week Five of the 2021 NFL season. Topics include: how many beers it takes to turn Mac Jones into Tom Brady, Davis Mills being unable to cover a ten point spread at home, Kyler Murray MVP, what a Trey Lance offense may look like, the Cowboys remaining calm, the Giants vertical passing offense waking up, Josh Allen needing to get better, and the holes in Kansas City’s armor. Let’s start the show. You can

  • Houston Texans Podcast: My Whole Life is a Dark Room (Texans v. Bills Review)

    04/10/2021 Duração: 01h30min

Love and savor Josh Allen. Let his loving grace into your heart. It’s never too late to atone. If you didn’t realize he was the one true quarterback after leapt over Anthony Barr, or when he stiff armed J.J. Watt in the pocket, or caught a touchdown pass against Houston in a playoff game, or found his deep ball and turned into a top five MVP caliber quarterback, then maybe you realized it today, when he led a Bills team that skunked Houston 40-0. It was the worst loss in Texans franchise history. It was the third worst start by a starting quarterback in Texans franchise history. Without a running game, in the rain, with only Brandin Cooks to throw to, Davis Mills was left to die in the plains, squashed by stampeding Buffaloes, or Bills, I don’t know, the name doesn’t make any sense. Hopefully now you have discovered the truth, and let the light through. If this game didn’t, there may not be any hope left for you. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and John Cumpler (@TexansDoc) reviewed the worst

  • Houston Texans Podcast: 2021 Week Four NFL Preview

    01/10/2021 Duração: 01h42min

The NFL landscape will be spending their time talking, talking, talking about Brady and Bill. Tom left New England for Tampa Bay after a messy divorce, and various teams turning down his services. Entropy going too far. There he proved their complete roster was really a quarterback away, leading them to a Super Bowl. The Patriots were on fire with Cam Newton to start the season, but his body and his arm quickly flailed out. Their run defense, atrocious, their pass defense, mediocre. After finally missing the playoffs, resentful of what happened in Tompa Bay, they went all in this offseason. A horde of signings, new quarterback, doing the things they never used to do. But, see, we are real football men, talking about real football, instead of engaging in the gossip and the drama. It’s PEOPLE magazine. It isn’t football. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and his good friend Taylor preview Week Four of the 2021 NFL season. The grace and light of Josh Allen, if Davis Mills will survive another week

  • Houston Texans Podcast: 2021 Week Three NFL Preview

    25/09/2021 Duração: 01h42min

Your Houston Texans already played their football game. Davis Mills already had Tim Kelly put his pacifier in this mouth, Lovie Smith's defense already forced zero turnovers, Houston already wasn't able to run the outside zone once again, and Christian McCaffrey already hurt his hamstring. These things have just happened. Football exists past the Houston Texans. There's an entire league of teams and players to show you why Thursday is an aberration, that actual good football still resides in this league. To make up for it, we have a longer weekly preview, since this Sunday, is a rare Sunday, where you can watch more than just your favorite football team. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and his good friend Taylor preview Week Three of the 2021 NFL season. Topics include: a Houston-Carolina recap, the best 0-2 teams and the worst 2-0 teams, the problems with Kansas City’s roster, what flavor Herbert’s sherbet will be this week, the disappointing Washington defense, the disappointing Buffalo off

  • Houston Texans Podcast: Get Well Soon Tygod (Texans v. Browns Review)

    20/09/2021 Duração: 01h18min

In Tygod we trust. In Davis Mills we drown in sorrow. Houston was electric in the first half. Tyrod Taylor had one incompletion, ran and passed for a touchdown, executed Tim Kelly’s offense perfectly, and had a QBR of 94.8. Justin Reid forced two turnovers all on his own. Houston went into the half tied 14-14. Then disaster struck. Taylor suffered a hamstring injury, and in came Davis Mills. He was sacked once, fumbled once, threw one interception, managed one touchdown drive aided by a 27 yard pass interference penalty, and he had a QBR of 10. The accuracy was spottier than a through hiker’s underwear. The arm strength was fuzzy. His pocket presence was non existent. Pray for Mills. He needs it. Shades of New England 2017 turned putrescent and green. Houston went from the feel good hit of September, to bad, but not only that, they were bad and boring. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and Scott Martin (L4Blitzer) review the Texans 31-21 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Topics include: why Tyrod T

  • Houston Texans Podcast: 2021 Week Two NFL Preview

    17/09/2021 Duração: 01h24min

The fortune tellers have packed up their bags. Crystal balls have turned into bowling balls. The mugs are in the dishwasher. Our hands are now we gloved. For we are now archaeologists, with brushes and shovels, slowly uncovering the unknown. Lithographs and pictographs. Hieroglyphics and monolithic crumbles. Porcelain shards and oligarchs. We are seeing whose good and who isn’t, the surprises, and the typical disappointments. One week is a sliver. Two weeks is a letter. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt and his good friend Taylor preview Week Two of the 2021 NFL season. Topics include: the biggest trends from week one, NOBODY BELIEVES IN US, hunting for a fat chubb, Arthur Smith missing the Titans and the Titans missing Arthur Smith, Seattle’s deep edge rush, Herbert’s strawberry lime sherbert, Joey Bosa against Terrence Steele, nevermore screeching out in Baltimore, and Tyreek or Jason. • Houston Texans Podcast: A Brand New Box of Puppies (Texans v. Jaguars)

    13/09/2021 Duração: 01h01min

The last 18 months have been obscene. Blowing a 24 point lead, trading DeAndre Hopkins, adding only Eric Murray and Ross Blacklock to a bottom pass defense, starting 0-4 and immolating the Bill O’Brien era, watching Deshaun Watson’s teammates actively sabotage him, Watson’s trade request after the Nick Caserio hiring process, another draft without a first or second round pick, and a summer of malaise, the good news is that football has started again, and all of that is down the drain. What matters, the only thing that matters, is right here right now, and right now, the Texans are 1-0 after hunting down the Jaguars in a 37-21 win. On this episode of Battle Red Radio Matt Weston and Diehard Chris review the win over Jacksonville. Topics include: TYGOD Taylor, embracing the present, how Houston’s run blocking fared, the top rope diving Brandin Cooks, what to make of Lovie Smith’s defense, turnovers regressing to the mean in a single game, the Bradley Roby trade, Urban Myer racing to the EKG machine, and David J

  • Houston Texans Podcast: 2021 NFL Season Preview—The NFC West

    03/09/2021 Duração: 01h29min

The NFC West has it all. The two most innovative playcallers in the league. A MVP caliber quarterback disenchanted with the franchise he works for. All-time great pass rushers. The newest highly drafted rookie quarterback. Teeny scramblers. Beautiful colors. The desert, the ocean, the fog, and the smog. Teams that make our great game great. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, the 2021 NFL Season Preview comes to as Matt Weston and his good friend Taylor preview the NFC West. Topics include: Kliff or Kyler, what J.J. Watt’s heart is made of, if Matthew Stafford really moves the needle, the Rams losing their defensive depth, San Francisco crawling out from the tomb, Trey Lance or Jimmy Garoppolo, drama drama drama, and pondering if Seattle’s second half defense swing will stick.
