In case you thought might be watching an entirely different show over the last couple of weekends with the Murphys and the newly reconstituted Garveys in Jarden, TX, Tom and Laurie bring the bleak as they try to reclaim wayward Guilty Remnant members back into humanity. No, the GR has not gone away and in fact, they've found a new leader who's willing to do anything to show how upset she feels with Laurie (I'm not going to tell who though!) Fair warning, the sense of humor of the last two episodes must come with the new location because there are no laughs back in the old neighborhood where Tom and Laurie cohabit. You didn't really think this show would completely leave the Garveys for another family, did you? Good. That would have been silly of you. In this episode, we catch up with a newly-born incarnation of the Garveys with Kevin and Jill greeting Nora Durst and baby Lily into the clan. The scene in Mapleton has gotten stale, and Kevin needs a change of scenery so they pack up a U-haul, hook it up to the Dog-killer's Dodge Ram, and make their way to Jarden, TX, population 9,261 (otherwise known as the largest city in the world with no departures). The season finale of the first season of AMC's Fear The Walking Dead was strong. It was not quite up to the gut-wrenching level I've come to expect from its older sibling-series, but considering how slowly FTWD started, this was a pretty good ride. We had a zombie hoard, a Travis losing his cool, and finally and a major death! Not to be morbid or anything, but the drama these shows thrive on requires character death from time to time and this show hadn't gone there yet. We're going to have to go out of order here to stay current with the release of new material for the show. Things get very real between Kevin and Patti in this episode as Kevin and the dog-killer have Patti over to a quaint out-of-the-way spot in Cairo, New York, to discuss life, sleep, and all things related to the Sudden Departure. The fourth episode of Fear The Walking Dead was a little lean on action and is probably best described as a "setup" episode. Certain characters obviously needed to be in certain places in order to give other characters motivation to do stuff in upcoming episodes, and this episode set all that up. We also get a good sense of how far things have deteriorated both in- and outside the fence, particularly inside the Clark household. Travis is content to jog his problems away while Maddie is being driven mad by the relentless bleed-through of the neighbor's brains on their living room paint. Next stop, breaking point.
