  • Preparing the Ground | Renewal I

    14/10/2019 Duração: 44min

God has always worked through a ‘faithful remnant’ of people who have a holy discontentment with the spiritual status quo. These people are fed-up with hollow and nominal religion, and know in their bones that false idols and ideologies are leading people astray. They know that God wants so much more for His people than nominal, dry, practically dead religion. Through repentance, fasting, prayer and utter dependence on God, they prepare the ground for Him to move in power and bring about renewal. -- 2 Chronicles 7:14 - “If my people, who bear my name, humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.” -- “Renewal comes when we are sickened by our false gods and the broken promises of our impotent idols and ideologies. When we are shattered by our striving and pathetic attempts at saving ourselves, we can fall into the arms of Christ to be remade without caveats or compromise.” - Mark Sayers -- Preacher: Jonathan Smit

  • Over & Out | Colossians 4.2-18

    06/10/2019 Duração: 37min

Paul signs-off by calling the Colossians to prayer, praise, and personal testimony. -- “When the devil sees a man or woman who really believes in prayer, who knows how to pray, and who really does pray, and, above all, when he sees a whole church on its face before God in prayer, he trembles as much as he ever did, for he knows that his day in that church or community is at an end.” - R. A. Torrey -- Preacher: Jonathan Smith Series: No Turning Back Passage: Colossians 4:2-18 Subscribe: apple.co/2Jht9Cs More: www.reddoorchurch.com.au

  • House Rules | Colossians 3:18-4:1

    29/09/2019 Duração: 36min

Paul instructs the Colossians on what the New Humanity looks like in the Christian household. In contrast to the prevailing Roman culture, Paul envisions a family of people of equal value, who are each called to live in a way that recognises Jesus’ lordship over each member of the household. -- Preacher: Jonathan Smith Series: No Turning Back Passage: Colossians 3:18-4:1 Subscribe: apple.co/2Jht9Cs More: www.reddoorchurch.com.au

  • Be Who You Are | Colossians 3:1-17

    23/09/2019 Duração: 34min

Christians have died to old ways of being, and have been raised to new life. That new life is marked by an eager expectation of his second coming. But as we wait, we are to cultivate virtues that align with our new identity as “God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved”. -- As God’s chosen people, Christians are being renewed into the image of God. This progressive ‘sanctification’ is the process by which we become more like Christ - indeed - more like the people we were created to be. -- Paul calls the Colossians to a holy lifestyle, consistent with their new identity - to be who they truly are. In contrast to the old humanity (3:9), Christians are emulate the nature and character of Christ. -- Run, John, and work, the law commands.
But gives me neither feet nor hands;
But sweeter news the gospel brings,
It bids me fly and lends me wings. - John Berridge -- "It would be nice, and fairly nearly true, to say that 'from that time forth Eustace was a different boy.' To be strictly accurate, he began to be a di

  • Safeguarding Your Faith In Jesus | Colossians 2:6-23

    16/09/2019 Duração: 38min

The believers in Colossae have received Christ, but Paul wants them to continue to grow in him, rather than being taken captive, and turning back to old ways of being and believing. -- Preacher: Duku Wolikare Series: No Turning Back Passage: Colossians 2:6-23 Subscribe: apple.co/2Jht9Cs More: www.reddoorchurch.com.au

**A second microphone was switched on during the recording of this message. You'll hear some occasional background noise, but you'll also be blessed by Pastor Duku's laugh - you're welcome :) -- Just as Jesus won redemption for his people by becoming the ultimate suffering servant, Paul is similarly embracing pain for the sake of the saints. -- Preacher: Jonathan Smith Series: No Turning Back Passage: Colossians 1:21-2:5 Subscribe: apple.co/2Jht9Cs More: www.reddoorchurch.com.au

In the arenas of sport, politics, and the arts, there is always discussion and debate about who qualifies to be the ‘GOAT’ (Greatest Of All Time). Paul begins his letter with an avalanche of encouragement! He reminds the Colossian believers of who they are in Christ (1:2), lets them know that their pastor (Epaphras) thinks well of them (1:7-8), and shares the beautiful substance of his prayers for them (1:9-14). -- “Adoption is the highest privilege that the gospel offers; ...adoption is higher [than justification] because of the richer relationship with God it involves.” (J I Packer, Knowing God, 1973, pp. 230–1). -- Preacher: Jonathan Smith Series: No Turning Back Passage: Colossians 1:1-14 Subscribe: apple.co/2Jht9Cs More: www.reddoorchurch.com.au

  • Worship | 1 Corinthians 14:26-40

    21/07/2019 Duração: 45min

In the final paragraph of our study in 1 Cor. 12-14, Paul addresses some important and controversial subjects regarding the worship gathering. -- Four statements to summarise what we’ve learned in this series: 1. Every believer, both male and female, young and old, is gifted to minister in the church. Pastors, Priests, and ‘Professional religious people’ aren’t more qualified to receive or exercise spiritual gifts. “A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good”.
 --
 2. Spiritual gifts are designed primarily for the building up of the church. They ought to move you outside of yourself to serve others for the common good.
 --
 3. Spiritual gifts exercised without love are worse than useless, they are irritating and offensive. “A noisy gong or a clanging cymbal”.
Gifts will cease when Jesus returns, but love lasts forever.
 --
 4. Tongues and prophecy are more susceptible to abuse, and some of us have suffered as a result.
However, the antidote to these dangers is not to despise t

  • Tongues | 1 Corinthians 14:1-25

    15/07/2019 Duração: 49min

“...contrary to the opinion of many, spiritual edification can take place in ways other than through the cortex of the brain. Paul believed in an immediate communing with God by means of the Spirit that sometimes bypassed the mind...”

- Gordon Fee, The First Epistle to the Corinthians -- While the primary purpose of spiritual gifts is the building up of the corporate church, Paul’s description of tongues in 1 Corinthians identifies it primarily as a form of prayer for self-edification. -- Preacher: Jonathan Smith Series: Gifted Passage: 1 Corinthians 14:1-25 Subscribe: apple.co/2Jht9Cs More: www.reddoorchurch.com.au

  • Prophecy | 1 Corinthians 14:1-19

    09/07/2019 Duração: 48min

"This is not a suggestion or mere advice or wise counsel. This is a divine command, a mandate from God himself. If you and I are not earnestly desiring spiritual gifts, especially prophecy, we are disobedient...
--
This is not an issue for prayer. You do not respond to this passage by saying, “Well, ok, I’ll pray about it.” No. You don’t pray about whether or not you are going to obey God. God is not giving us a choice. He’s giving us a command. The only choice you have is whether or not you are going to obey."

  • The Way Of Love | 1 Corinthians 13

    01/07/2019 Duração: 35min

If love for others doesn’t govern how we use our spiritual gifts, then they’re not only worthless, they’re irritating, and potentially dangerous. -- Preacher: Jonathan Smith Series: Gifted Passage: 1 Corinthians 13 Subscribe: apple.co/2Jht9Cs More: www.reddoorchurch.com.au

  • Body Building | 1 Corinthians 12:14-31

    24/06/2019 Duração: 45min

God has gifted each believer in different ways in order to build a healthy ‘body of believers’ called the church. Each of us should embrace our gifting and work in unity for the good of the whole body. -- Preacher: Ben Clements Series: Gifted Passage: 1 Corinthians 12:14:31 Subscribe: apple.co/2Jht9Cs More: www.reddoorchurch.com.au

  • Be Filled With The Spirit | 1 Corinthians 12:7-13

    16/06/2019 Duração: 43min

Christians should pursue experiences of the Spirit in which we are anointed and empowered by His intimate presence.
This is what the Bible calls the “filling” of the Spirit. -- "A man and his little child [are] walking down the road and they are walking hand in hand, and the child knows that he is the child of his father, and he knows that his father loves him, and he rejoices in that, and he is happy in it. There is no uncertainty about it all, but suddenly the father, moved by some impulse, takes hold of the child and picks him up, [cradles] him in his arms, kisses him, embraces him, showers his love upon him, and then he puts him down again and they go on walking together.
That is it! The child knew before that his father loved him, and he knew that he was his child. But oh! the loving embrace, this extra outpouring of love, this unusual manifestation of it — that is the kind of thing. The Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.”

 - Thomas Goodwin (quoted by Martyn Lloy
