God has always worked through a ‘faithful remnant’ of people who have a holy discontentment with the spiritual status quo. These people are fed-up with hollow and nominal religion, and know in their bones that false idols and ideologies are leading people astray. They know that God wants so much more for His people than nominal, dry, practically dead religion. Through repentance, fasting, prayer and utter dependence on God, they prepare the ground for Him to move in power and bring about renewal. -- 2 Chronicles 7:14 - “If my people, who bear my name, humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.” -- “Renewal comes when we are sickened by our false gods and the broken promises of our impotent idols and ideologies. Paul signs-off by calling the Colossians to prayer, praise, and personal testimony. -- “When the devil sees a man or woman who really believes in prayer, who knows how to pray, and who really does pray, and, above all, when he sees a whole church on its face before God in prayer, he trembles as much as he ever did, for he knows that his day in that church or community is at an end.” - R. Paul instructs the Colossians on what the New Humanity looks like in the Christian household. Christians have died to old ways of being, and have been raised to new life. That new life is marked by an eager expectation of his second coming. But as we wait, we are to cultivate virtues that align with our new identity as “God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved”. -- As God’s chosen people, Christians are being renewed into the image of God. This progressive ‘sanctification’ is the process by which we become more like Christ - indeed - more like the people we were created to be. -- Paul calls the Colossians to a holy lifestyle, consistent with their new identity - to be who they truly are. In the arenas of sport, politics, and the arts, there is always discussion and debate about who qualifies to be the ‘GOAT’ (Greatest Of All Time). Paul begins his letter with an avalanche of encouragement! In the final paragraph of our study in 1 Cor. 12-14, Paul addresses some important and controversial subjects regarding the worship gathering. -- Four statements to summarise what we’ve learned in this series: 1. Every believer, both male and female, young and old, is gifted to minister in the church. Pastors, Priests, and ‘Professional religious people’ aren’t more qualified to receive or exercise spiritual gifts. “A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good”.
 --
 2. Spiritual gifts are designed primarily for the building up of the church. They ought to move you outside of yourself to serve others for the common good.
 --
 3. Spiritual gifts exercised without love are worse than useless, they are irritating and offensive. “A noisy gong or a clanging cymbal”. 
Gifts will cease when Jesus returns, but love lasts forever.

 4. Tongues and prophecy are more susceptible to abuse, and some of us have suffered as a result.

Christians should pursue experiences of the Spirit in which we are anointed and empowered by His intimate presence.
