God has done some incredible things in our church in 2018. In many, many ways it was our Best Year Yet! We are going to take some time to celebrate what God has done and look forward to what God has in store for 2019. It’s going to be amazing!

Sharing our faith can be tough but when we're challenged by those who are critical or oppositional to God, it's even harder! How do we share Jesus with those who are skeptical? Is there a method that can help us when faced with people who have been hurt? Jesus shows us the best way to speak to skeptics, and His method still works today!

Companies spend thousands of dollars every year on advertising. They want people to know about their products in order to generate revenue. But everyone knows the BEST advertising doesn’t cost anything. It comes from word of mouth. People telling people about something they like is more powerful than any expensive commercial ever could be. So what would happen if we used word of mouth to tell people about Jesus?

The final characteristic of God we will dig into is His faithfulness. In a world filled with people who don’t live up to what they say they’re going to do, this might be one of the most encouraging aspects to God’s character. He always fulfills His promises, He always deals with us honestly and He always follows through on what He says He’s going to do.

Everyone wants love. It’s part of how we’re wired and that, too, is because love is one of the defining attributes of God. He plants that desire in all of us. Many of us also know that God loves everyone, yet there’s a gap between the need and the solution: Why? Learning exactly what God’s love IS can help fill that gap.

Life is not fair. Most of us know that. We see it and feel it all around us. But have you ever wondered why we think life SHOULD be fair? Why do we get upset when things don’t happen the way we think they should? Where does this sense of fairness that we all have come from? God has placed in all of us a desire to see fairness happen and justice be done because those are reflective of Him and His character. Now we just need to figure out how to respond to His justice!

We all face difficult decisions every day. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a place we could go to find out what to do when faced with those decisions? If only there we someone we could talk to in order to get advice and guidance! Fortunately for us, there is such a place. One of God’s attributes that flows out of His other traits is His wisdom. God knows just what to do and how to do it, no matter the situation we find ourselves in. All we need to do is seek out that wisdom!

The book of Hebrews says “...without holiness no one will see the Lord.” (Heb. 12:14b.) That’s a pretty high bar and, for many, a difficult statement to comprehend. What does it mean that God is Holy and what does it mean for us to strive to be holy as well? What difference does it all make? We must understand the majesty and power of God’s holiness if we’re to learn how to live holy lives as He commanded us to.

God declares that He is the sovereign Lord. But what exactly does that mean? In our world, we don’t really have “sovereigns” anymore so it can be hard to wrap our minds around what it means for God to be, truly, sovereign. If He is sovereign, how does He display His sovereignty, and in what ways should we respond?

Because God is good and God is for us, all His commandments are for our good, and surrendering to His will is the means by which He blesses us. It’s up to every believer to embrace the battle and face the barriers to reach a breakthrough.

How do each of us picture God? Whether we realize it or not, this is vital question we must all wrestle through. Surely, our perceptions about him are inadequate at best and completely erroneous and misleading at worst. The good news is, He wants us to know Him and He even provides the way! All we have to do is seek Him.

It’s Labor Day weekend. A chance to go to the lake, grill up some burgers and dogs and take a day off work. It’s also a chance to reflect on how good we have it in our country. It doesn’t take much time of reflection to realize that we’ve got some struggles as a nation, however. We need change. We need restoration. What we really need is a revival. But how do we do it? Now that’s the question!

Who in your life has “got your back”? If you needed help or a ride to the airport or a couch to sleep on for the night, who would you call? Is there anyone in your life right now that you could turn to? We were created to live in community with other people. We need others to protect us and help us and “do life” with. Do you have people like that? What are you willing to do to find some?

Have you ever had a dream or a desire to do something truly unique? Maybe it was something small you wanted to do in your backyard. Maybe it was something huge you wanted to see done in the community. Regardless of the project, this dream you had can also be referred to as a “vision” – a mental image of a preferred reality. Nehemiah had a vision and so does our church. God is doing great things and we can’t wait to see it happen!

Just like new year’s, the start of a new school year is, in many ways, a restart. It’s a chance to hit the reset button and do better this year than the year before. Vacation is over and it’s time to get back to life as normal. It’s the perfect season of the year to take a long, hard look at some things. And if we want to make the most of this opportunity, we may need to start with a few changes and maybe a prayer or two!

Who is the most talented person you know? What is it that you admire about them the most? A lot of us look at other, more talented people and we waste so much of our time comparing ourselves or our families or our lives to them. We forget that God has created us for something extraordinary. We have all been given talents and we need to get busy using those talents and helping people discover something greater!

Some people are natural-born flirts. They’re always flirting with someone or something. Maybe it’s an idea or a purchase they keep talking about making but never do. Maybe it’s with a classmate they want to ask out on a date but never get up the courage to take the plunge. Some people flirt with being a Christian too. They talk about it. They act like they believe but they’re just flirting. What about you? Are you flirting or are you following?

Who are the marginalized people in our society? Who is it that no one wants to be around? Maybe it’s people of another race. Could be people of a different political persuasion. Maybe it’s people who don’t believe like us or who come from different countries. Jesus’ famous parable of the good Samaritan has a lot to teach us about how to treat the “least of these” in our society. Luke 10:25-37
