The second commandment can feel dated because, for the most part, we don't live in a culture of idol worship. But, as is most often the case, there are layers within the command we'll miss if we don't look just below the surface

This first command along with it's counterpart sets the tone and framework for discovering how to live in the ongoing practice of experiencing and responding to God's great love

How you understand the context in which the 10 Commandments are given will give you a significant understanding of their truest intent

Learning from the Psalmist, we are invited to experience the God whose loving fingerprints are found all throughout creation. There is immeasurable beauty, goodness, and truth to be found all around us. The invitation for us is to see that creation is singing the praises of God all the time - we simply get to add our voices to the symphony

As we begin the journey into Lent, looking towards the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus and the new life it promises, we delve into the poetry of Lamentations and discover there is much we have to learn about pain and grief before we’ll be ready to fully receive the full gift of life Jesus offers
