Stop Glamorizing Busy
07/09/2020 Duração: 11minPresident Dwight D. Eisenhower often said that what is important is rarely urgent and what is urgent is rarely important. I’ve found that the most badass people I know, the ones who are the best in the world at their craft, are rarely busy in the way we’ve been taught to think of it. Being busy is a disease, a terminal one. It destroys your precious time. Being effective is about using every minute thoughtfully and mindfully as you make steady progress toward your dream. The biggest surprise to me has been that those people, those creators who are so deliberate and planned in the way they work, are also incredibly joyful and playful while they work. Planning and play aren’t opposites; they complement each other beautifully. Food for thought. Enjoy! Today's episode is brought to you by CreativeLive. Stress Is Optional with Cynthia Ackrill
31/08/2020 Duração: 01h18minEver feel stressed? It's a question that almost is absurd. So much of our human experience involves stress and anxiety these days. It is further compounded by the fact that our brain is wired to respond to it. Adrenaline. Cortisol. Fight or flight... If a bear is chasing us, helpful. If you're reading the news? Not so much. Enter Dr. Cynthia Ackrill. She's a physician, a stress expert, and leadership coach and she is on a mission to keep dis-stress from eroding focus, creativity, health, success, and relationships. Today's episode is a couple of my favorite segments from her CreativeLive class on stress. But this is just a tip of the iceberg. Her class is a deep dive of how panic, anxiety, and stress can stand in the way of the life we want. The good news? We can stop the cycle. Enjoy! Today's episode is brought to you by CreativeLive. Photographing History with Pete Souza
26/08/2020 Duração: 01h19minOne of the things I love about photography is it's a universal language. You can look at an image intuitively feel the power and the emotion, regardless of age, race, gender, social/economic status, geography, even time. Pete Souza is such a critical creator in not just the arc of the United States of America and world politics, but as a guy out there doing what he loves, chasing his passion and hoping to tell a story and represent history in a powerful and profound way. He's done cover stories for Nat Geo, LIFE magazine, Fortune, Newsweek, and was one of the Chicago Tribune staff back in 2001. Most notably he was the official photographer of President Ronald Reagan, and then the Chief Official White House Photographer for President Barack Obama, where he made some of the most iconic pictures in the last 20 years. His book, "Obama: An Intimate Portrait," was published by Little, Brown & Company in 2017, and debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. It is one of the best-selling photography book

Three Cornerstones for Success
17/08/2020 Duração: 23minIf you turn back the clock a couple decades, you’ll find me in the following situation: I’m sitting at my parents’ kitchen table, explaining to them that I’ve decided to drop out of med school and a PhD in philosophy to become a professional photographer. In addition to being a tough conversation, this was perhaps the biggest turning point in my career (and life). It was the moment where I walked away from what I was told I “should” do and committed myself to building a career around my passion: creativity. It’s a path that few (including me) could have predicted, but I’m far from the only one with a winding path to my ultimate destination. In fact, I’d suggest that paths like mine are the new normal, that the concept of a linear career path is nearly fiction, and almost entirely the exception rather than the rule. As such, nearly all of us will find ourselves at a turning point in our careers (or lives), whether by choice or by circumstance. And while there are rarely easy choices in these situations, I’d li
