Bit Storm

We give a salute to the poorly under-used Waluigi and try to find him a game, crap on about Judge Dredd for a while, create a domestic stealth game starring a kid trying to make mischief, revel in the violent aftermath of PAX, imagine an undercover cop trying to stay honest, an exhibitionist paramedic, and imagine modern sequels to Space Quest and Captain Comic.

In the 2nd of 3 PAX themed episodes, Ben and Trevor record in front of a live studio audience... of one. Together they designed an intriguing stealth game set within a closed down mint, a competitive multiplayer game where teachers in a school try to catch greased up pigs and take us on a peaceful journey where the Snake UN have sent an emissary of peace, a Peace Python if you will, to the Human UN. This week Ben and Trevor describe a game about returning items to a very specific type of store, throw together a rhythm based customer service experience, play Telephone with a rumour mongering game that would not be out of place in the Jackbox Party Pack, throw some witty repartee in an asynchronous mobile app, and write the game tie-in to Netflix original Santa Clarita Diet. Yummy!

Ben and Trevor had the privilege of recording at the Audio Technica booth, on the convention floor @ PAX. They welcomed Benny from the Hungry Gamers podcast and Nato from the 4 Yanks 1 Aussie podcast to play some very quick Click Pitch. Together they came up with games such as a Graveyard simulation where the dead and buried may not yet be dead, a VR boat simulator that comes with it's own sick bucket, and a Midlife Crisis simulator where you get to build your very own Man Cave.

Take flight as Ben and Trevor explore game ideas like a witch who must use her broom as an umbrella, a doctor struggling to delivery vital organs across a city, Weird Al fighting his way across heaven and hell, a Canadian organized crime simulator, plus strategies for what happens when you find yourself in an Olympic sized swimming pool being chased by a bear.

Get out your checkbooks as Ben and Trevor might be in a little legal trouble. We come up with two Disney themed Click Pitches, one based on Toy Story, the other based on Cars. Other games may include: a depressed garbage truck, a very scary carnival and a world where everyone wears thermal goggles.

For our 1 year anniversary episode, Ben and Trevor do the exact same thing they do every week: come up with game ideas! This week we discover a world where everybody is genetically predisposed to arson, join an android on their year long journey through space, try desperately to find the right adapter for our new game console, learn sign language in stressful situations, produce a sitcom and re-imagine the VR game Lone Echo.

Stock up on candy because Halloween has come early! Ben and Trevor play some Click Pitch, and spew out some games where you need to escape captivity in a world where your spit can instantly rust metal, pull off a Halloween heist in a world where candy is money and beat your friends in a competitive bellhop game.

Alex Wynnter from Dice Hard (amongst other things) joins Ben and Trevor on Bit Storm this week! We invent a loincloth based superhero, a vampire who just wants to paint landscapes, a thief with an orchid calling card, a secret society of mutants within a university, a Commandos-esque tactical game involving pigs, and a violent robot version of lacrosse. Plus we reimagine the 7 Wonders series of board games as an emotion bending action adventure game that.

Trevor drags himself out of bed to help Ben play some Click Pitch. Things get a little weird with games featuring a jungle court with a baboon for a judge, a murder mystery at a Woodstock like concert and an owl hunting for snacks.

Anthony Murphy from the Semi-Cast joins Ben this week as Trevor chucks a sickie, missing out on a planetary scale visual novel, a policewoman skydiving to make arrests, XCOM 2: War Of The Chosen reimagined as a totally not-blasphemous real time strategy, another VR game about yelling, and transit building game set in the world of wizardry. By the way, what type of flowers do you buy for a zoo wedding?

Things are getting stormy as Ben and Trevor play some more Click Pitch and come up with ideas like playing the "Bond girl" role in a spy thriller and a Papers Please style of game where the protagonist is a parole officer. They also talk about their new Facebook group http://facebook.com/groups/bitstorm but seem to only talk about their own suggestions for the weekly listener Click Pitch.

Michael and Tegan from RESET join Ben and Trevor in designing a new toys to life franchise revolving around body pillows, a raunchy game of Tetris, a solar system spanning Tupperware conspiracy, a zombie knitting game, a side scrolling nerds vs jocks beat-em-up, a very asymmetrical game of basketball and the existential crisis of Robert Cattington. Get your popcorn ready and switch off your mobile phones, cos Ben and Trevor are going to the movies. They warm up with some Click Pitch and then dive into some movie tie in games. The games include the children of Robin Hood and Little John on opposite sides of the law, a VR game based within the Anchorman universe and a creaky game about living as a house.

Ben is back in the Bit Storm basement, and he and Trevor jump straight back into some Click Pitch resulting in games about giants cooking humans in the sun, grammar teachers who love it when you are incorrect, a VR computer building challenge with frustrating limitations, selectively breeding sportspeople to up their game, and a presidential VR thumb fiddling simulation. Plus perhaps we'll finally catch that sticker bandit!

Ben and Trevor are back in the saddle, kinda anyway. In the last episode of Bit Drizzle before Ben returns from Canada, they talk about games that don’t exist yet, like a Life Saving simulator, a VR hunting game where you control the animals and a bizarre reality where messages are passed through the body like a Postal service.

Dan Ryan of the Game Club Podcast joins Trevor in this episode of Bit Storm, as Ben is still not back from Canada. Although there were a few internet disruptions this episode made it over the line and contains numerous references to morality systems, broken down observatory equipment and aliens invading our living rooms.

Sam Harkin, of Vivid Geekcast and Super Hype Train, joins Trevor in this unprecedented second guest hosted episode in a row. He brings a real fun energy and they come up with a VR Croquet simulator with a horror edge, a Stardew Valley rip off and a VR Hibachi chef simulator.

Trevor welcomes Pete Curulli of Game On Australia fame back to play some more Click Pitch. They get a little silly with ideas such as a Hijacker with a heart of gold, a musical theatre game with quicktime mechanics, pooping zebras and a Player Unknown's Battlegrounds inspired office scavenger game. All this and more.

While Ben is in Canada we have a number of smaller episodes entitled "Bit Drizzle" ready for your listening pleasure. In this episode Ben and Trevor discuss a game featuring Twinder, sentient candy and they return to the world of anthropomorphic root vegetables that still don't like their leafy cousins.
