John 9Jesus ran into a lot of challenges in his life. He dealt with people who were blind or lepers, prostitutes or tax-collectors, angry or depressed. He didn’t seem to have too many problems with these challenges. Where he seemed to face his greatest challenge was with the folks who were convinced they knew it all—those who knew what God wanted and didn’t want in every situation. Genesis 4:17-6:8As we’ve worked our way through the first four chapters of Genesis, the stories we’ve looked at have been fairly familiar to some of us. But now we come to some material that most of us would simply choose to skip—lists of family names, strange stories of the sons of God, and a little information about the Nephilim (whoever they are!). We can read this a couple of times and still find ourselves pretty confused. Genesis 4: 1-16All of us have high expectations for our kids, especially when they are first born. But, what do you do when your first born is break bad? In Genesis 3:15, God promises Eve that her seed/son will be 'the deliverer'. Genesis 3:21-24Last Sunday we talked about how nothing works the way it’s supposed to work in our world anymore. We don’t do what we’re supposed to do, the world around us doesn’t work right—there’s cancer and pain and death, and our relationship with God is off kilter. God has every right to just let us go. We saw how they decided that they knew better than God and they did the one thing God said they couldn't do - they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 2 Corinthians 4:7-10As Christians, we have a light that dwells within us. This light is comparable to treasure, it is beyond comparison and immeasurably glorious. Unfortunately, we too often hide that light. We let our pride and fear of weakness contain it. In 2 Corinthians the Apostle Paul is not afraid to let go of fear and to let God be his strength in time of weakness so that his light be on display for all to see!
