Genesis 1. While we don't always think about it, one of the most important things we do in our lives is to try to figure out our place in this world. Where do we fit? Are we important? Is this world safe? There are big questions and in order to think about them it can be good to start at the very beginning - with God creating everything. In 1908 only 14% of all deaths occurred in an institution but by 2000 it is nearly 80%. The past century also led to many people denying even talking about death. How can we learn to see death as the completion of a well-lived life? What would it take for your friend to see death as a transition to glory? Galatians 6:1-2, John 1:14Proverbs 17:17 says that "A friend loves at all times." But what about when our friend is doing something we don't think is wise? Or that we think is wrong? We all have memories of the times when we've been hurt - someone lied to us or about us - someone betrayed us - someone cheated on us - someone abused us. Those memories can hurt us and they can also make us bitter. They can dominate our lives. Is there any way out? If you think about it, it really is a strange thing to do—to say that a book written more than 2,000 years ago is God’s Word—to say that this book is true and trustworthy. 1 Peter 2:4-10When we think about who we are, there are a number of things that probably come to mind. We think, “I’m a dad (or a mom). I’m a daughter (or a son). I’m a teacher (or salesperson or firefighter or homemaker or…). I’m an American (or a Canadian or a Romanian or…).” We might think a lot of things, but we probably wouldn’t think about what Peter tells us we are if we’re followers of Jesus.
