  • 5 Questions to ask Your Care Provider Before Birth : A minisode with Deb

    01/04/2017 Duração: 31min

As a doula, I’ve heard this lament time and time again: “I received the name of my doctor from a friend, and if I had known what to ask, I probably would have switched doctors a long time ago. Now I feel it is too late to change!” Ideally, it’s best to have a very important conversation with your doctor at the beginning of your pregnancy to make sure that the way he or she practices medicine matches up with the way you want to birth. If you’re already into your pregnancy and a relationship with your doctor, be sure to ask these key questions at your next appointment! When you’re in labor, it isn’t a good time to start negotiating your labor and delivery wishes. It’s essential that you feel heard, supported and respected long before the big day!    for the full list of questions click HERE Get the most out of each episode by checking out the show notes with links, resources and other related podcasts at: prenatalyogacenter.com If you love what you’ve been listening to, please leave a rating and review! Yoga|

  • Do’s and Don’ts for Doulas: Understanding Scope of Practice

    06/01/2017 Duração: 42min

Today’s conversation was inspired by a webinar I did with the Birth Institute, originally intended for birth workers. However I found the community discussion we had to be very inspiring and believe that expectant parents and birth workers alike will enjoy this episode. When it comes to supporting women in labor, doulas have a very specific scope of practice. As professional doulas, it is important for us to remember which activities are appropriate for us to engage in with clients, and which are not. In this talk, I share how we can use good judgement to ensure that we create a positive discourse with other care providers, and ensure that the value of doulas continues to be respected. I review the “Do’s and Don’ts” of the doula, outlining exactly what falls within the doula’s scope of practice, providing examples of when a doula is stepping beyond her role, and giving ideas for how to tactfully hold those boundaries. • Dr. George Mussalli of Village Obstetrics

    31/10/2016 Duração: 01h14min

In this episode I speak with the very experienced, compassionate and knowledge, NYC obstetrician Dr. George Mussalli. The reason I sought out Dr Mussalli for this podcast was for listeners to hear an OB speak about interventions, care practices, and maternal age among some other topics. Many women only get to speak with their care provider for a very short time during office visits and often leave not fully understanding what they may encounter during their birth or even simply how the current birth trends may directly affect their birth. • Family Centered Cesarean with Narchi Jovic and Suzanne Chesney of ICAN

    17/10/2016 Duração: 44min

With one third of babies being born via cesarean, it is important to understand the process of a cesarean birth. However, there are ways to make a surgical birth less “surgical” feeling and shift the focus to a softer, gentler birth, a family centered cesarean, also called a “gentle cesarean.” This week on Yoga | Birth | Babies we cover the topic of Family Centered Cesarean with Narchi Jovic and Suzanne Chesney, the co-leaders of the NYC chapter of The International Cesarean Awareness Network, Inc. (ICAN) Narchi and Suzanne seamlessly discuss this topic through offering personal accounts of a gentle cesarean along with stories of supporting women who have experienced a gentle cesarean.  Get the most out of each episode by checking out the show notes with links, resources and other related podcasts at: prenatalyogacenter.com If you love what you’ve been listening to, please leave a rating and review! Yoga| Birth|Babies To connect with Deb and the PYC Community:  instagram & facebook: @prenatalyogacenter
