They're here to record audio commentary for some of Philip Seymour Hoffman's greatest films, and they're kicking things off with Boogie Nights, as selected by you, the Hoff-fans. In the second film in his fruitful collaboration with director Paul Thomas Anderson, Hoffman plays the vulnerable Scotty J. One can't help but feel awful for the character that many consider to be Philip Seymour Hoffman's breakout performance. Vote on the first film they'll watch at cageclub.me

059 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015)
04/04/2018 Duração: 01h17minIt's happened, Hoff-fans: we've reached Philip Seymour Hoffman's last film. However... it is not our final episode! We conclude The Hunger Games series with Mockingjay - Part 2, which features an opening scene with our main man, NO CGI PSH, a political coup, and much more!
-
058 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014)
28/03/2018 Duração: 01h12minMock, YEAH! Ing, YEAH! Jay, YEAH! Episode, YEAH! Well, Part 1, anyway. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 marks Philip Seymour Hoffman's final full performance, as he passed away with one week left when filming Mockingjay Part 2. That's a topic for another podcast, though, and this episode is about Part 1... and we have some things to say. Joining this film's great ensemble is long-time friend and collaborator Julianne Moore; it's great to see them on screen together once again! In this movie, PSH channels his knowledge as a director and puts it to use as his character, Plutarch, has to direct Katniss in some interesting propaganda films for the now-in-full-swing revolution!

057 A Most Wanted Man (2014)
21/03/2018 Duração: 01h09minHoff-fans, we're nearing the end and, with A Most Wanted Man, we get the last leading performance of our main man Philip Seymour Hoffman. The guys -- along with big PSH fan Kirkland Sheppard -- discuss (what Kirk calls) a "nuanced" performance that's masterfully executed by the big guy. The cast is great, the story is interesting, he's leaving us with a memorable performance late in his career... and come on, we just love doing German accents!
-
056 God's Pocket (2014)
14/03/2018 Duração: 01h14minFrom Before The Devil Knows You're Dead to God's Pocket (is there a biblical theme here?), Kyle and Brian sit down with Joey Lewandowski and Michael Manzi, co-creators of our mothership The CageClub Podcast Network, for one last time to discuss take on this indie crime film from first-time director John Slattery. The reviews are mixed at best, but there's no denying Slattery called in some favors to assemble this strong cast starring our main man, Philip Seymour Hoffman.

055 The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
07/03/2018 Duração: 01h34minThis week, the guys (along with Wistful Thinking co-host Cara Gael O'Regan) talk about Catching Fire, the second installment of the international hit series The Hunger Games. Our main man Philip Seymour Hoffman joins the already-established cast starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland, and so many more, but manages to not get lost in the mix and instead brings his gravitas to the dystopian future Games!
-
054 A Late Quartet (2012)
28/02/2018 Duração: 01h08minIf you didn't catch the guys on Facebook Live -- or if you just want to listen to this chat again -- our latest episode is here for your audio-seeking pleasure and it's music to your ears! Brian and Kyle discuss this week's film, A Late Quartet, and how the actors bring it in this terrific film! They also discuss the first (and only) collaboration between P.S.H. and the legendary Christopher Walken, his final collaboration with his dear friend Catherine Keener, and his last film set in New York City.
-
053 The Master (2012)
21/02/2018 Duração: 01h21minGet on a slow boat to China and enjoy listening to this episode! Joining the guys is photographer (and long-time friend) Danny Kim to discuss The Cause vs Scientology, the perv switch, who the real Master master, three Oscar-nominated performances (including the last one for P.S.H.), and the amazing chemistry between Joaquin and Phil. All of this -- and more! -- in the final film collaboration between Philip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Thomas Anderson: The Master.
-
052 The Ides of March (2011)
14/02/2018 Duração: 01h25minBeware the Ides of March... as well as this great episode we have for you! Joining the guys for his second time is part videographer, part politician, and now full-time Pennsylvanian Dan Poeschl. We've seen Philip Seymour Hoffman host the political documentary The Party's Over and help Tom Hanks beat the Russians, but this time around he's running a campaign alongside Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Paul Giamatti, Evan Rachel Wood, and Marisa Tomei! Forget the political ticket... what a movie ticket!
-
051 Moneyball (2011)
07/02/2018 Duração: 01h30minIt's late in the game, folks. There aren't many batters (films) left on the bench, but the ones who are left are heavy hitters! Joining us to talk about Moneyball this week, for his last (solo) at-bat, is CageClub Network Co-Founder Joey Lewandowski! While Joey and Brian school Kyle with their baseball knowledge, we also discuss translating a stat-filled book to the screen and a performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman that didn't please the person he was portraying, Oakland A's Manager Art Howe.
-
050 Jack Goes Boating (2010)
31/01/2018 Duração: 01h29minNot only is our main man Philip Seymour Hoffman the star of Jack Goes Boating, but he's the director as well! To commemorate this special occasion -- and to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of P.S.H.'s first (and only) time in the director's chair -- the guys are joined by first-time guest Joanna Arcieri, a writer, podcaster, and film critic. While there may be tangents covering The Fast and the Furious, Best Picture nominees, and reality TV, there's plenty of talk about Hoffman and his stellar cast in the stage-to-screen adaptation of Jack Goes Boating!
-
049 The Invention of Lying (2009)
24/01/2018 Duração: 01h13minYou might not get a whole lot of Philip Seymour Hoffman in The Invention of Lying, but you sure get a bountiful amount Ricky Gervais. After all, Gervais did write, direct, and star in this film, which creates a world where no one (except Ricky) can tell a lie. Oh, what a world that would be! Our main man (as Jim the Bartender) adds some humor, but it's still his smallest role yet. Don't worry, though, while this film may lack PSH, it's packed with other comedic cameos!
-
048 Pirate Radio (2009)
17/01/2018 Duração: 01h27minJoin the guys coming to you from the North Sea as they discuss a broadcast... no, not one of The CageClub Podcast Network, but rather of the Pirate Airwaves from the late 60s! Philip Seymour Hoffman is joined by an outstanding and hilarious cast, bringing us all back to the golden age of rock and roll. Why wasn't this movie a hit? Who has the most swagger on the ship? Who's Kyle's dream girl? All this (and more!) answered in our discussion of Pirate Radio!
-
047 Mary and Max (2009)
10/01/2018 Duração: 01h15minJoin the guys as they discuss the only animated feature that our main man Philip Seymour Hoffman ever worked on. Between the claymation, cinematography, odd characters, and deep themes, Mary and Max is not your average animated film!
-
046 Doubt (2008)
03/01/2018 Duração: 01h19minWe no longer live in the time of Ancient Greece, where titans and gods once battled. What’s the next best thing? How about seeing Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman go toe-to-toe in the religious drama Doubt?!
