Suffering has flooded the earth with pain, longing, waiting, injustice, lack, and human conflict. Few have not tasted its bitter visitation into their lives, relationships, health and hopes. What is the purpose of suffering? The fiery trials are to refine us and create in us, the image and heart of Jesus Christ.  We can suffer for righteousness sake. We can suffer for the foolishness of our own sins. We can suffer because of the sins others have committed against us. Suffering can come from the sins of our generations, in the Enemy using the unfinished business of sin and iniquity of those who lived before us to bring the patterns of loss and suffering and health aliments upon us. We have been redeemed by the Blood of Jesus but we must stand our ground against the Accuser who tries to charge us with the punishment for the sins of others. How many children are attacked by a spirit of sexual perversion coming from their generation, and suffering for the sins of others begins to set the course of their lives.  E

Suffering is part of this fallen world. Can it be avoided? Is there any redeeming merit to it? Is there such a thing as suffering needlessly? What does it mean to suffer for Christ? As common as suffering is among us, suffering still remains a mystery. Its origin and purposes seem to be hidden to us though we could be missing some of suffering’s greatest benefits.  God uses suffering to refine our faith to bring forth the character and image of Christ in our lives. Jesus Himself learned obedience (demonstrated His obedience) through the things He suffered. Great expectations in life and in God can be the source of great disappointment. The ways of God do not work like the ways of the world.  Many of us think our ideas of how things should work in this walk with Jesus are “off”. We don’t like to hear this because we have been programmed to measure success by this world’s standards. But when we look at the way God worked with His people, we see a different story. We have our mind set, like Naaman, on how God should do things. And when God does not do things like we want, we get disappointed. Disappointment is expecting something we didn’t get. Disappointment sets up a great barrier to faith. Maybe it is time to let God be God and do things His way. God wants to do miracles, things only He can do – but He wants willing vessels to do those Miracles through. Maybe then, if we let God be God, and let Him do the miracles, there won’t be so much disappointment and discouragement in the Body of Christ. After all, HE IS the Head! To Love or not to Love - that is the question. Is it possible to love at all times, and under all circumstances or are there times to turn away from love? Is our love really about keeping the rules, boundaries, expectations of others and based on fulfilling certain expectations? If what I think of as love reduces down to being all about me, I am still locked in selfishness and fear. Real love is defeating the unloving spirit that is rooted in fear of love. Real love is being in a relationship with someone who wants to know you - with someone you want to get to know for who they are, not for what they can do for you. Real love begins with knowing and accepting the love God has for us. Real love does not come from keeping the religious rules that offer lip service to love, but through the revelation of God's unconditional love for us. Is your love life like a box of chocolates? Never knowing what you're going to get? The biblical definition of love is " to know and be known". But is being vulnerable safe in real life? Recognizing what we are dealing with is essential to dealing with it, that includes recognizing and dealing with demons. In our modern systems of diagnosing, everything has been relabeled a bad behavior, an addiction, depression, etc. Nothing is taken back to its Point of Origin to see what is really going on or where it comes from. In God's divine order, there are only two kingdoms. Demons are from the devil's kingdom and work to ensnare humans. They are the spiritual parasites that work for Hell and company. Before we can deal effectively with something we must admit it is real. To deny the cancer or the addiction, or to treat it incorrectly will not bring the results we are looking for. Believe it or not, we hate sin! We are built by God, created in his image. God hates sin and so do we. Sin separates us from God and His plan to reunite us with Him. The Devil has used sin as a lever to pry us apart from God by using our hatred  of sin to get us to try to get rid of it ourselves. We are often being affected by other people's demons when we are tempted to go with them to do evil. We don't realize they are being tempted by demons that are now extending their influence through them to us. This is the chain reaction of evil influence that brings us both into bondage. Demons also operate within us. They seek to merge themselves with us in such a way as to deceive us into defending our behavior as being part of who we are. We become offended when other people try to call our attention to our behavior. We take it personally and  get defensive. A subject most of us live with but no one ever talks about. Life is full of difficulties, most of which come through dysfunctional relationships with others. We are enmeshed, obligated, dependent, controlled, entangles with roped of love and need. If fear is the glue that holds this dysfunctional mess together, then love is the thing that will fix it. Having faith implies we believe in something. Having faith in the promises of the One True God, means we believe in God. Faith in God’s Promises is foundational to a believer’s life. Abraham believed the promises God made to him and his faith caused him to follow God. The faith he demonstrated in his obedience to follow God was accounted to him as righteousness. But, faith can be tricky. How much faith do I need? Do I have enough faith to receive the thing I am believing for? Is our faith measured in the outcome or in obtaining the objective for which we trusted? After all, some who believed were delivered from the lions and some were eaten by the lions. The testing of our faith is the point of all our trials - which reduce down to can I believe God to be faithful to deliver me from the trial according to His Promises. Joy to the World the Lord has come! The joy of the Lord is our strength. The world is weak and weary and has lost its way. This is a time to remember the goodness of God who sent His Son to bring peace and reconciliation to mankind. God is not mad at us! Faith is living beyond the natural realm of sight. Jesus said not to make judgments based upon appearance. We are told, “The just shall live by faith”, not feelings. So what do we do with our feelings, reality and appearances of the way things look when we are tempted to base our decisions on what things look like and feel like? Doubt and double-mindedness prowl on every side as the Word of God admonishes us “to be strong in the power of His might”  “that we may be able to “stand against the wiles of the devil.” We stand and prevail through faith, standing on the word and promises of God, who is faithful to complete the work He has begun in us.  Reality and appearances and feelings and fear must be defeated by faith in the faithfulness of God and in His compassion for us to finish the work He has begun in us.  Check out God On Trial at the Life Recovery Store. Peter describes the devil as an adversary that goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. He tells us to reisit him steadfast in the faith. How do we deal with the lions roaring through your life? The pain, the grief over the loss of loved ones, the loneliness and fear, the health issues and the calamities of life are too much. They are threatening to overwhelm us and take us out. Peter tells us to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God. Daniel addressed those lions by humbling himself to confess the sins that had brought his people into captivity - by confessing the sins of his nation. Now it is our turn. What will we do? Daniel lived to serve his God during the reign of four pagan kings. In the medical model of healing, sin has been overlooked as a root cause of disease in both physical and mental illness. The Enemy uses our agreements with guilt, fear, unforgiveness, and even the sins of others to bring his sickness and pain upon us. God gets no glory from us being  tormented by the Enemy any more than we are happy when our children are sick. Confusion and condemnation around being sick and struggling with health issues make it difficult to stand on God’s promises for healing. Am I sick because of my sin? Am I guilty? The Children of Israel were bitten by fiery serpents in the wilderness after they had been complaining. God’s solution to the poisonous venom that was killing them was not a medical intervention. He simply told them to look on the brazen serpent Moses hung from the pole and live. Looking was their act of obedience that broke the spell of Satan’s demonic judgment against them and their agreement with him. Healing, as with health, is a very spiritual matter. Because of the rampant deception  of the last days the Bible admonishes us to test all things, and not believe every thing that looks like and is promoted to be the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.
