  • Lookout Landing Podcast 208: The 2022 Season Autopsy Edition

    19/10/2022 Duração: 01h39min

Hello Seattle Mariner fans. The crew Kate Preusser Evan James and John Trupin come together in the aftermath of a brilliant season to dig deep and provide the dissection it deserves. First and foremost, a reminder to check out Kate’s interview with C Trent Rosecrans from last week, which gives some wider context and detail to the Jesse Winker story and his current relationship with the Mariners. We dig a little deeper and reflect on that conversation in light of some of the new reporting from Divish and general twitter scuttlebutt. Next up Kate recounts her first-hand experience at the stadium during the playoffs and the roller coaster ride of accompanying emotions. John and Evan look at some of the holes on the roster and how those spots could be filled with external talent to build on the prospect foundation. In closing everyone steps back to appreciate just how special the season has been and how grateful we are as a site to have been a part of it. • Lookout Landing Podcast 206: American League Division Series Preview

    11/10/2022 Duração: 01h13min

Hello Seattle Mariners fans! On this episode Kate Preusser, Zach Gottschalk and Jacob Parr are here to look forward to the American League Division Series against (who else but the Seattle Mariners most hated and dangerous rival) The Houston Astros. Yes indeed, if the Mariners intend to reach the mountain top they first have a dragon to slay. From a narrative perspective this feels like it was inevitable; You can’t be the best if you can’t beat the best and make no mistake, the Astros have (despite the cheating) been the best. Kate brings up a great point, that after the sour post season exit last season, it feels like the Astros are fighting for how legitimately their legacy will be remembered. The Mariners on the other hand find themselves in the comfortable role of underdog ready to take on the world. The crew breaks down the Houston lineup and rotation the Mariners are set to face and assesses our chances and advantages at each position. Lastly everyone picks series awards for the victorious Mariners, and

Trent Rosecrans to talk all things baseball but specifically some Reds/Mariners imports making waves in the Pacific Northwest. Kate praises the Mariners for acquiring Suarez & Castillo while lamenting that such foundational, all start caliber players found themselves moved at all. Trent gives a brief history of Luis Castillo, newly minted Mariner ace. Trent praises the camaraderie between Winker, Suarez and Castillo and predicts it portends great things for the Mariners. Kate and Trent dive deep on Suarez’s good vibes only policy and how it has blossomed into the Mariners collective dance routine. Trent illuminates for Mariners fans just how hard the loss of (literally ALL of) the Red’s All Stars has been for the Cincinnati faithful and perhaps how hard it has been for those same players as well. The duo discusses Winker and tries to make sense of a perplex

Well Seattle Mariners fans, we did it. Kate Preusser, Evan James and John Trupin are here to celebrate the Mariners first playoff berth in more than 20 years. Dead tired and possibly hungover, we are here to revel in the glory that has eluded us for so long. Where to start? The 2022 Mariners are awash with young success stories who came through last night. Eight lockdown innings from a Logan Gilbert who was throwing harder than he has ever thrown in his life. An absolutely unhittable inning of relief from rookie Matt Brash. The best defensive play of Luis Torrens catching career to catch a steal immediately before the A’s would score their only run of the night. And of course, Cal Raleigh, he who was demoted merely months ago, puts a 4 in front of his WAR total with the 9th inning, 2 out home run that has already made him a Seattle legend. We break down our individual stories for the night from different perspectives and give out flowers for the biggest game in an era. For a team that was 10 games under .500

  • Emergency Podcast: 2022 MLB Trade Deadline Edition

    03/08/2022 Duração: 01h07min

Hello Seattle Mariners fans! Trader Jerry has been working the hot stove to the bone, but now that the dust have settled, the 2022 Mariners team has come into stark focus. Out are prospects, most notably Noelvi marte and Edwin Arroyo, but also Andy Thomas, Michael Stryffeler, and the release of Jack Larsen; in are Luis Castillo, Matthew Boyd, Curt Casali and Jake Lamb. A frontline starting pitcher (an All Star no less), swingman insurance, a bench right handed bat and a proper backup catcher. Not bad. Not earth shattering after Castillo, but not bad. These are useful pieces for the team in 2022, on that there is no debate. After the wildest trade deadline in a while, it begs the question though, was it enough? Should the Mariners have traded from their outfield prospect "depth" instead? The legendary trio of John Trupin, Kate Preusser and Evan James are here to break down all the hot, spicy trade talk, and tell you if your Seattle Mariners are indeed primed and restocked for playoff glory. https://twitter.co

  • Emergency Podcast: Trader Jerry Strikes Again

    30/07/2022 Duração: 52min

Hello Seattle Mariners fans! Urgent news is obviously that Jerry Dipoto has once again managed to strike an iron forged in the hot stove. The Mariners traded two of their top prospects in Noelvi Marte and Edwin Arroyo, another highly regarded starter in Levi Stoudt, as well as 2021 draft pick Andrew Moore for Cincinnati Red's starter Luis Castillo, who slides in as arguably the team’s best pitcher immediately. While Marte and Arroyo are an extremely high upside pair to trade for only 1.5 years of control, Castillo is undoubtedly an upgrade in the short term and the kind of impact at a position of weakness the team needed to break the playoff drought. The future is the future and therefore uncertain, so the playoffs in 2022, and the rest of the season ahead of the team, is what takes greatest priority. A bird in the hand is two in the bush, and the Mariners traded two in the bush today for one of five key fingers on the fist that will punch their ticket to a playoff spot and hopefully flip the Houston Astros t

Yes indeed, the Seattle Mariners, after bottoming out at 10 games under .500 in May, have miraculously rattled off 14 wins in a row to ride off into the All Star break at a brisk 51-42, a game ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays for the second wild card spot. For this special episode (noted Abe Toro fan) Jacob Parr and Grant Bronsdon take over for John, joining Kate and Evan to celebrate the Mariners historic streak. The crew takes listener questions about key moments from the win streak and favorite games in particular. We highlight specific players who have turned it up in July and deserve some flowers, notably Cal, Sam Haggerty? And Carlos Santana.
