How fantastic to see such passion from our manager – something evidently lacking from a certain individual last season. In some respects it was a case of déjà vu. Loads of chances created but not being clinical enough; Hazard back to his mercurial best; Costa misbehaving and incurring the wrath of a crazed media. But, so good to get off to a winning start. Like a 20 stone bloke completing a marathon, Chelsea limped to the end of the season with a 1-1 draw against the Champions. And finally, it’s over, this annus horribilis of a season. Hopefully we can wake up in August and pretend that it never happened. I for one wish the applauding of Leicester players and their goal had never happened – another poor indictment of modern football and its fans. As if this shithouse of a season wasn’t bad enough, losing to Sunderland after being 2-1 up was royally capped off by Captain Leader Legend JT being sent off in the last minute. His red card brings with it a 2 match ban thereby meaning that it might well be the last time we see JT in a Chelsea shirt. Is this the end for JT? Last night ably demonstrated why football is the greatest game in the world. From the depths of despair at half time to the resurrection in the second, the game crackled like a 10 pound firework. But most important of all Chelsea’s feckless team of malcontents and shirkers finally turned up when it mattered to ensure we kept our 26 year home unbeaten run intact and put a nail in the coffin of Sp*rs title aspirations whilst delivering the most improbable title of all to Leicester and our old gaffer Ranieri. What a great away trip Bournemouth was – sun, sea and drinking with some great mates all day and for once the football didn’t get in the way of a good day out, with Chelsea cantering to a 4-1 win – or did they? In spite of the alcohol infused warm glow of victory, the nagging doubt remains that Bournemouth had their towel laid out on the sun lounger slightly ahead of Chelsea. Another Saturday, another top day in the pubs before and after interrupted by a very poor 90 minutes of football. To be honest I thought we’d probably lose to City but the shambolic and passionless way in which we lost was depressing even by this horrible season’s standard. As a Chelsea supporter you can accept it when your team has no talent or if the opposition is just better than you but what you cannot accept are players with talent who show no passion, fight or seem not to care for the club or the supporters. It’s hard to remember a worse week in recent times following Chelsea as we limply exited both the Champions League and the FA Cup. All this seemed to be compounded by Costa apparently being sent off for biting Everton’s Gareth Barry – whilst all of us can understand the desire to do Barry serious injury, thankfully Costa pulled his chompers away at the last second thereby avoiding a dreaded Luis Suarez scenario. In reality the only thing to bite was the realization that these two defeats mean that our season is over by March for the first time since the 90’s and an uncertain future awaits the club, players and supporters alike. Chelsea gave City’s youth a spanking with 5 of the best on Sunday to march onward to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, which for most supporters I know is still massive. Sadly the TV, the FA and most of all clubs like Man City seem to disagree. In fielding what was tantamount to a youth side, City basically threw the tie and in my opinion hugely disrespected the tradition of the greatest cup competition in world football. And they call us a plastic club with no history! Anyway, Eden Hazard wasn’t complaining and put in a performance redolent of last season with 3 assists and a superb goal. But is the little Belgian as happy as a Trappist monk after a night on the ale or is it all waffle? Love was most definitely in the air on Saturday as we enjoyed one of the best days of this doom laden season. For once the excellent pre and post-match was matched on the pitch as Chelsea romped home to an easy 5-1 win against Newcastle. But, were we really that good or were Newcastle quite simply abject? Has the Chelsea juggernaut turned round or will we be talking about our season being over on next week’s show. Stamford Chidge is joined by Dan Silver, Clayton Beerman and Ross Mooring to discuss the somewhat tepid draws with Man Utd and Watford and ask why Guus is being so cautious? Arguably one of the most tepid games in recent years between Chelsea and Man Utd yesterday as two teams clearly way below their title winning levels stumbled to a 1-1 draw. Why is Guus playing it safe rather than going for the win – are we really that devoid of talent and belief? What does he have to lose – absolutely nothing? But when all is said and done, at least we have stopped losing, so perhaps we should be thankful for that. It all adds up to a lot of disgruntlement from the supporters with Chelsea at the moment though, with the torpor on the pitch only matched by the lack of atmosphere off it.
