The Giants took two of three from the Cubs while the Yankees split four games with the Orioles. The Red Sox swept the Rangers and the Indians dropped two of three to the Reds. Many runs were scored this week as a handful teams reached upwards of 14 runs. The Rockies scored 19 on the DBacks who put a position player into pitch in the 4th inning! The final vote results were also revealed. The DBacks scored a franchise record 20 runs on Saturday, the same night Mark Reynolds knocked in 10 RBI in a blow out win in D.C. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Astros all continued their winning ways, all taking care of lesser opponents. As the season goes on the AL playoff picture is becoming more and more clear. The only compelling division race lies out east. The AL and NL All Star rosters where announced on Sunday and may of the position races came down to the final hours of voting. Javier Baez snuck ahead of Ozzie Albies at the last minute to get the start at second base for the NL. Tom believes his talents are being wasted on a team with an unmotivated owner and general manager who has had trouble creating an actual durable and effective pitching rotation and bullpen. Top seeded Florida have staved off elimination twice now and have reached the semifinals along with Mississippi State, Oregon State, and Arkansas. Mississippi State and Arkansas are both 2-0 and only need to win once in order to make it to the Championship Series. Arkansas will matchup against Florida and Mississippi State will face Oregon State. Tom also talks about the AL East race and how it will come down to the head to head meetings between the Yankees and Red Sox as well as how each team fares against the weaker teams in the league. The Cubs and Dodgers double header finished in split after two hard fought games by both teams. The Rockies go back- to back- to back against the Mets in their win on Tuesday and the A's get homers in the 9th and 10th to win in San Diego. Tom also take us to Omaha for this years College World Series. Both Washington and Texas have already been eliminated. Top seeded Florida stays alive with a 6-1 win over Texas while Mississippi State stands as the only team at 2-0 so far. Arkansas and Texas Tech will play each other today and the loser will get Florida in another elimination game. It is interesting to see how a team can get hot when their bullpen is working well, then when it falls apart it can really hamstring a team. Tom aslo talks about the races in the AL East and how the team who finishes in second will likely host the AL Wild Card game. The Yankees should be wary of that due to the way their rotation stacks up, they may have to rely on their power bats to get them through this season. Lastly, Tom previews the games for the middle of the week.
