What have been some of the toughest seasons of your entire life? How did you respond? What did your prayer life look like? If you really want to get to know someone (including yourself), listen to their prayers under pressure. Who we really are, how we really feel, and what we really believe are revealed most clearly when we pray. To open his letter to a young church, Paul prays. Although he is in a jail cell far away and unable to visit the church, he can pray for them and write to them. This selfless act shows the heart of someone who is content even in crisis. Despite hardship, Paul is not jealous or covetous of other Christians who are living an easier life. No, he rejoices with them, prays for them, and encourages them with 3 evidences of real Christianity, 4 encouragements of real Christianity, and 7 exciting gifts that God has for us! This packed prayer is like a bucket of fresh, cold, life-giving water drawn from a deep well poured out to nourish God’s people.

There are four things you gotta know if you wanna grow. Who will you learn from? How can you know God’s will for your life? What is your identity? Do you understand the Father heart of God? In the opening lines of his letter to the Colossian church, the apostle Paul answers these four massive questions that form our identity and frame our destiny. And, by calling God’s people saints, he reveals that when we know who we truly are in Christ we can truly begin to become more like Christ.

In our culture today, there are three marriage killers: casual dating, cohabitation, and contractual thinking. In this sermon, those errors are corrected with the biblical concept of covenant. Unless we are forgiven by others and forgive those with whom we journey in this life, we have no joyful relationships with others. It is not a stretch to say that without forgiveness, Christianity simply does not, cannot, and will not exist. This is why the ancient Apostles’ Creed teaches us to confess, “I believe in the forgiveness of sins.” This week we look at what forgiveness is and is not, as well as the incredibly vital reasons why we need to learn to give forgiveness freely.

There is a powerful lie in our culture about marriage - that Christians and non-Christians have the same rates of marital happiness, adultery, and divorce. This powerful lie keeps non-Christians from coming to church to get help for their family. And, this powerful lie also keeps Christians discouraged and feeling like hypocrites. But, this lie is untrue and the most comprehensive sociological research proves that church attending, Bible reading, prayer uttering Christians have the best marriages of any group of people. In this sermon, Pastor Mark blows up the cultural lie and replaces it with biblical truth as we learn the 3 things you can do RIGHT NOW to improve your marriage and family. This week we examine the woman at the well as a case study in relationships. Through her example, we learn that until we have a healthy relationship with Jesus Christ, we are relationally unhealthy. Therefore, our relationship with Jesus Christ through which we experience the transforming power of the Holy Spirit to heal our hurts and bring us health has to be our first relationship priority.
