Sinopse

Being Jim Davis is the world's premiere daily Garfield chrono-cast. Our mission is to review and discuss each and every strip of the long-running syndicated comic series before eventually dying of old age. We hope you'll come along with us on this journey, and share in the laughter as we catalogue the daily adventures of everyone's favorite indolent feline through a lens of history, humor, and heuristics. Each episode will be a thorough examination of a single strip. We'll place it in its historical context, then attempt to unravel the morals and meanings hidden under the surface. Finally, we'll consider the question of whether the strip stands the test of time. Above all, we promise to always present you with our sincere, personal, reaction to each Garfield comic strip. Our only thought is to entertain you.

  • Episode 144 - Thursday, November 9, 1978

    19/01/2017 Duração: 20min

Today on the podcast we determine that the collective noun for a group of Garfield strips is 'gross'. I don't really remember too much else about it, really. I Edited and mixed it a day or two ago at this point so It's all kind of hazy, honestly. I think there's something about a nap attack, maybe? It's hard to know.Today's strip

  • Episode 143 - Wednesday, November 8, 1978

    18/01/2017 Duração: 11min

Listeners, please do NOT start using the hashtag '#wheresgarfieldsbutthole?' on Twitter. We have absolutely no interest in seeing that become a popular hashtag. On today's episode, two guys who have next to zero knowledge about feline narcolepsy who don't let that stop them from speaking about it for 11 minutes straight.Today's strip

  • Episode 142 - Tuesday, November 7, 1978

    17/01/2017 Duração: 20min

Garfield suffers from another nap attack and Jon is nonplussed in this, episode 142 of Being Jim Davis. Of course it's Election Day in 1978 today, so is Jon here representing the unwitting American public to Garfield's attention-seeking do-nothing congress? It's certainly makes AS much sense as anything else I guess. Anyway, since this is Being Jim Davis we mainly talk about philosophy.Hey, you know what movie was big around this time in 1978? The Boys from Brazil. Great flick. Great freakin' flick. Hey, watch the trailer if you don't believe me.   After you're done you can watch the whole movie for free on YouTube for some reason.Today's strip

  • Episode 141 - Monday, November 6, 1978

    16/01/2017 Duração: 14min

Listeners, if nauseating static noises were something you felt was missing from our podcast up until this point, then boy, do we have a treat in store for you this entire week! You see, Chris had a problem with his audio interface and how he doesn't know how to use it correctly, with the unfortunate result that his audio track ended up with a bunch of noise on it. Honestly, we probably could have gotten it to sound a little better in post-production but who has time for that? This is a fucking Garfield podcast. Today's stripVery Bad Wizards podcast'Yellow Rain' incident

  • Episode 133 - Sunday, October 29, 1978

    08/01/2017 Duração: 21min

Another Sunday strip, another overlong unreliable monologue about how awesome cats are. This one stands out (if we want to use that term) as it contains apparent supernatural elements. Is this going to be like one of those Simpsons Halloween episodes, where pedantic fans insist on separating it from the official canon so as not to conflict with the general realism underlying the series? No, because of course, as all Garfield readers understand at this point, the strip contains almost no 'underlying realism' to begin with, not to mention the fact that IT ISN'T FUCKING HALLOWEEN TODAY.More importantly, is that Lyman masquerading as a doctor in the last panel as part of some elaborate Marx Brothers-esque farce we didn't get to see??? Tweet us @beingjimdavis and tell us what you think!Today's strip

  • Episode 132 - Saturday, October 28, 1978

    07/01/2017 Duração: 24min

This one's pretty great. Jon Arbuckle in a state of childlike glee at the prospect of finding some really premium wanking material in his mailbox was not what we expected to encounter in panel one of today's strip. But that's what we get, and it makes for a halfway decent episode of Being Jim Davis! We talk about the evolution of pornography over the last 40 years, the subtle yet undeniable connection between Garfield and Aeschylus' Oresteia trilogy, and the enigmatic question of just who the fuck 'Elke' refers to. Jon makes a number of incorrect statements regarding The Sopranos.Today's stripSquare Root of Minus Garfield

  • Episode 131 - Friday, October 27, 1978

    06/01/2017 Duração: 16min

When Garfield was caught on tape last year bragging to a d-list celebrity on a bus about sexually assaulting Jon Arbuckle, I was, like many of my fellow Americans, shocked and incensed. But then when he reemerged, after several days of strategizing, and produced the ingenious defense that it was "just litter box talk," I decided that it was ok. Now with today's strip we have incontrovertible evidence of his heinous, unspeakable crimes! What's a self-respecting comics purveyor to do? I suppose the obvious course of action is to elect him president, in spite of the fact that he is OBVIOUSLY NOT 35 YEARS OLD. Because facts do not matter any more. Also, if currently sitting U.S. congress members Odie, Lyman and Nermal feel like doing DICK SQUAT about his many egregious conflicts of interest, even though they are constitutionally and morally obligated to do so, I guess that would be fine too.Today's strip

  • Episode 130 - Thursday, October 26, 1978

    05/01/2017 Duração: 18min

Jon says he won't do a thing, then does that thing! Who does he think he is, our President-elect? Or if we go with our standard assumption that it is Garfield that represents the orange demagogue, does that mean Jon is Ted Cruz in this one? I mean, you tell me, because I have no fucking clue. This is Being Jim Davis.Today's strip

  • Episode 129 - Wednesday, October 25, 1978

    04/01/2017 Duração: 10min

In today's episode of Garfield, Jon Arbuckle is alarmed to find himself momentarily in conversation with an anthropomorphic bear with considerable lifelike human verisimilitude, yet realizes no apparent contradiction in the act of commenting on this event, in thought, to an imaginary audience he believes can hear his thoughts. Ladies and gentlemen, this is how religions get started.Incidentally, let's not forget that our current vice-president-elect is a man who, because of his religion, genuinely believes that countless millions of his fellow human beings deserve to suffer unimaginable torment until the end of time for no other reason than because they are in loving relationships that contain the incorrect number of penises.Today's strip

    31/12/2016 Duração: 14min

Today's episode opens with a torrent of crass and wholly unmotivated verbal abuse directed at English poet John Donne. So that's something!Plus, as a special bonus, we talk about this Heathcliff comic:Today's strip:
