Global News IPSOS poll: Poilievre Top Choice for Best PM in Canada. 68% of Canadians believe Justin Trudeau should step down, including 33% of Liberal voters. British Columbia and Alberta are taking steps to either limit or end smartphone use in classrooms beginning in September. B.C. Is leaving the implementation to individual school districts and Alberta appears poised to follow that formula.  In Saskatchewan, the Prairie South School District (Moose Jaw) leaves the policy concerning presence and use of mobile phones in the classroom to individual schools. Ontario has announced all phones must be silent and turned off during the school day for K-6. Grade 7 and up students may use their phones during recess and lunch, but during class periods they must be turned off. A Toronto Sun story by Joe Warmington has shown a cube van in Toronto carrying carrying video advertising depicting people carrying Palestinian flags, praying and protesting, with the banner headline on the van reading Is this Yemen? Is this Syria? Is this Iraq? No. This is Canada. Wake up Canada. You are under siege.  There have been accusations this is hate speech and Toronto's chief of police Myron Demkiw promised an investigation and TPS has posted online this is Islamophobic expression and provided contact information for anyone who has information.  Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow also denounced the van and its messaging. Others are saying what is being displayed in Toronto is nothing more than freedom of expression, guaranteed all Canadians, unless and except it is defined as hate speech, per the Supreme Court. A heatwave in central/eastern Canada this week. A listener emailed following constant provincial and municipal warnings on how to deal with the heatwave "oh thanks. Whatever would I do without the great overseer." Too harsh? Also repeat stories about hot classrooms needing AC, etc.  @s_guilbeault on X assuring "we're all in it together" as far as surviving heatwaves is concerned. - Sorry if this rains on the parade, but heatwaves in the 90's Fahrenheit in June are not new. Last Sunday a quick response call-in had callers agreeing with the national service initiative by U.K. PM Sunak, but saying it would be political suicide. Should the Conservative Party of Canada commit to national service of 1 year for each Canadian youth on reaching18th birthday, serving either in the CAF or with a national civilian organization. - Many countries internationally demand this, including neutral Switzerland. A frantic day for Toronto. Earlier this morning, a four-alarm fire tore through St. Anne's Anglican Church in Little Portugal. While no injuries were reported, the blaze did destroy murals painted by the Group of Seven. Today also saw a record turnout, and increased security for Toronto's "Walk with Israel."
