  • Pundit Review radio: The Pope's comments about Islam

    19/09/2006 Duração: 45min

Sunday night on Pundit Review Radio we discussed The Pope’s comments about Islam, and his unfortunate, furious backpeddling. What a shame. One ounce of moral clarity, and then he cowered in fear at his alleged insult to Islam. Sad. As they threaten to kill him, demand that he convert to Islam, they are doing nothing but proving his point. He should say so. We also discussed Victor Davis Hanson’s article on the situation in which he said, "And what are we to make of poor Benedict XVI, the scholastic, who, in a disastrous display of public sensitivity, makes the telling point, that Christianity, in its long evolution to the present, has learned to forsake violence, and to defend its faith through appeals to reason—and thus can offer its own experience in the current crisis of Islam. And by quoting from the emperor rhetorician Manuel Paleologus—whose desperate efforts at strengthening the Morea and the Isthmus at Corinth a generation before that awful Tuesday, May 29, 1453 all came to naught—the Pope faile

  • Someone You Should Know: Navy SEAL's Murphy, Axelson, Dietz

    18/09/2006 Duração: 07min

When Matt from Blackfive joins us for Someone You Should Know every weekend, he often get his information from small town newspapers and military sources like Stars & Stripes and Army Times. We often criticize the MSM for not telling these stories, so finally, we have an opportunity to say “job well done” to the Washington Post. Tonight Matt told us about three special men, Lt. Michael P. Murphy, Navy SEAL Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew G. Axelson and Petty Officer 2nd Class Danny P. Dietz. The Washington Post told their story earlier this week, 2 SEALs Receive Navy Cross Pair Died Fighting Taliban in Afghanistan The perilous firefight erupted at 10,000 feet in some of the world’s most rugged terrain along Afghanistan’s border with Pakistan, when the SEAL team probed deep into enemy territory on a clandestine mission to kill or capture a Taliban militia leader. By nightfall that day, three of the SEALs lay dead, along with eight other SEALs and eight Army Special Operations aviators whose MH-47 Chi

  • Someone You Should Know: Rick Rescorla

    11/09/2006 Duração: 10min

There will be a lot of thoughtful posts in the blogosphere about the seventh anniversary of September 11. Here, I want to tell just one story of a man who we got to know thanks to Matt Burden and his Someone You Should Know series at Blackfive. Here is Matt’s tribute to Rick Rescorla, "Rick was a British (Cypress and Rhodesia) and American (Viet Nam) war hero. He retired as a Colonel in 1990. Decades later, after 9/11, I had no idea that Rescorla had everything to do with denying Al Qaeda a huge victory. I wasn’t surprised that Rick had saved 2,700 people that day, and then paid the price with his life when he went back into the tower for stragglers. He knew, KNEW, it was coming down. And he went anyway… Tenacious, strong, and leading all the way to the end."

  • The Futurist by James P. Othmer on Pundit Review Radio

    05/09/2006 Duração: 43min

The Futurist by James P. Othmer has been named the top novel of 2006 by Amazon.com. We loved the book, so we invited Mr. Othmer on the show to discuss this wicked satire of American business and culture. Here is what the critics had to say about The Futurist, “A frighteningly accurate send-up of modern corporate culture.’’ –Fortune magazine “The Futurist is at turns glib, trenchant, cynical, heartfelt, daffy, and harrowing–often on the same page.” –Entertainment Weekly “This intelligent, wise-cracking debut satire takes a hard look at what’s cool, what’s not and what people are willing to buy into morally, emotionally and culturally…Othmer leaves us with a taste of fear in our mouths even as we’re laughing at Yates’ ridiculous life.” –USA Today An indication of what a great writer James is, he was invited by the New York Times to write a column for the September 11 edition, and he gave us a preview of that as well.
