DTD - 137 - Callerinnerers of the world unite!
28/10/2016 Duração: 13minLucy has taken a holiday as it is half term in the UK so after the very special episode 136 this episode concentrates on DumTeeDum's magnificent callerinerers. Ellen, a vet from Glasgow, reckons that llamas are pretty mean and do not like having their mouths looked at. A real expert commentary - this is why we have callers! Next up is Maeve who is locked out of Twitter so cannot vent in the normal way! She thought Shula was sweet last week. Glyn considered it to be another fantastic week in Ambridge, whilst Naked Fingers reports that he has just finished making homemade butter on his birthday. Both seem convinced that there has to be some great payoff for Rob at the end of this story - NF wants a bang. Blithe Spirit tears a strip off all the Foulbrethern plus Pip who needs to grow up. She then laid into Kenton for not barring Rob from the Bull. Debs from Germany reckons that Jill was just fed up with Pip being a complete arse! It is her right and perogative. Paul Roome and I continue to believe... &

DTD 135: Short sweet and to the point!
18/10/2016 Duração: 01h03minThis week in Ambridge Lucy has Roy in artificial fibres, Johnny being very hairy, Oliver looking after joints, Jill as a clown and armed with secateurs, Tony being run over with a Dyson, Susan as a strong black woman, listless Lynda getting sweet talked by Robert with assistance from Kate who has nothing better to do as the bottom has dropped out of the yurt market - this will probably amuse in the same way as an amusement arcade; possibly Shula has had a tent flap interchange with Alastair who has suddenly cheered up and is talking to her again and relations also resumed at Honeysuckle Cottage - presumably in the hot tub. At least I think she said something like that - listen for yourselves. Roifield and Lucy feel like Ambridge has come home - characters are driving the story, especially Tom's smelly socks. Opinions are divided over Shula being in the driving seat of a story. Lucy reckons that in fact it has been a decent story arc - Shula has been heard by Alastair whilst Neil has been such a caring...

Ep: 130 - The longest Dumteedum ever, from here on in it's one hour folks
20/09/2016 Duração: 02h17minAfter a blockbuster Archers Omnibus, Lucy and Roifield deliver a blockbuster length DumTeeDum, coming in at over two hours not helped by Lucy having to explain snowdrops and Shaftesbury to Roifield. Lucy observes that Rob's truth addiction makes Jeffrey Archer looks like a harsh realist. She then went on to note how upset Ian was with Adam entering so many gentlemen's buttonholes. Joe, William, Eddie and George all seem to come from different parts of the country even though they all grew up in the same village. Lucy has a new hat as health and safety advisor pointing out that cooking breakfast in the nude is highly unsafe and there are standard rom com rules on what to wear to prevent injury which Toby did not follow; she does not know what Tom did. She also gave Judge Loomis a salute for calling Rob a massive shit in legal parlance. Luckily there are no Italian listeners to complain about Lucy's history references - but Roifield still does and then later admits she is right! Both hosts are now...

Ep: 128 - The Trial!
12/09/2016 Duração: 01h47minLucy painted an alternative portrait of the week (including Sunday's jury discussions) outside Ambridge; packed with more jokes than there were jurors. Also far more villagers in the court than reported by the original microphones. More calls than ever as this phase of the story climaxes. Some were made before the verdict and some afterwards - so it is mixed bag of predictions and celebrations as the callerinerers reflect on an extra lengthy week nearly all from the Crown Court. Roifield also salutes the departing editor and in the sense that as editor he has garnered an immense number of column inches this is justified. However some of us feel that there has also been a distortion (possibly a perversion) of our regular drama and this is hard to forgive especially if the new won listeners prove hard to retain in calmer waters. Even Roifield expressed some concern over the sudden jump to a verdict in the trial episode which was simply outrageously foreshortened and again unworthy of the story cycle...

Ep: 127 - The facts behind rape - we talk to Moriah Cohen
08/09/2016 Duração: 16minDomestic abuse in UK: Will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime Leads to, on average, two women being murdered each week and 30 men per year Accounts for 16% of all violent crime (Source: Crime in England and Wales 04/05 report), however it is still the violent crime least likely to be reported to the police Has more repeat victims than any other crime (on average there will have been 35 assaults before a victim calls the police) Is the single most quoted reason for becoming homeless (Shelter, 2002) In 2010 the Forced Marriage Unit responded to 1735 reports of possible Forced Marriages. In addition, approximately 400 people commit suicide each year who have attended hospital for domestic abuse injuries in the previous six months, 200 of these attend hospital on the day they go on to commit suicide See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

DTD: 124 Gold medals, A levels results and Lucy is back
23/08/2016 Duração: 01h16minLucy returns to the podcast after three weeks away. She returns jet lagged (I know the feeling) and fails to count to three so her weekly round up is a week late. She then provides her usual knowledgeable commentary on the callers who are talking about the current week. No doubt she will have caught up with the rest of us by next week. Special powers were revealed - Lucy can predict what other people will order from a menu and Judi Dench knows the time of day without looking at a watch and Jacqueline Bertho only gets lost in New Zealand but otherwise has a wonderful sense of direction! Lucy admitted she had not listened to Man's Hour either - but Roifield was pleased she was back even if working to a different week! Normality is promised for next week (whatever that might be). Also the curious topic of "Max" came up. There has been some very clunky scriptwriting which has avoided the use of the a gender specific pronoun. One listener claims to have heard reference to "he" a couple of weeks ago but...

DTD: 123 - Mans Hour and another 43 minutes on top
15/08/2016 Duração: 01h43minNo Lucy again this week so Roifield has the complex task of managing men as he is joined by Jed who does an amazing update on events in Ambridge, Terry Molloy, Yokel Bear and Andrew Horn. Despite initial objections they end up agreeing that the men are typically poorly written as characters with perhaps only Rob standing out from the crowd. It also tends to explain why Shula is having difficulties in her marriage. Numerous callers cover a huge swathe of issues - listen to every possible twist and turn they illuminate Pip's relationship with Toby (some great predictions there), Rob's ability to chill an iceberg, Joe's life expectation and the lengths the writers are using to keep Joe at Grange Farm whilst allegations of dogging were made against Alastair, the rural housing crisis is examined and the calls keep coming - a very busy week whilst Millie had a kind explanation of how "Yerr Mon" should be pronounced from its originator. Steve Pirate Parrett did tweets of the week Promises were made to do it...

DTD - 122 - Christine Michael of The Ambridge Observer
08/08/2016 Duração: 01h33minOn this week’s episode we have calls from Steve who predicts that Pip and Toby are the new Romeo and Juliet Jojosexyheels who is reading the runes through the music Miss Mid City, who is not happy at the legal aspects of Helens case and Witherspoon who is dancing like he is in Rio and hating on Susan. Ep: 121 - William Smethurst tribute and Shambridges.
01/08/2016 Duração: 01h31minHarriet of Shambridges fame sits in with Roifield this week as Lucy is away and in place of the usual summary she provides a wonderful soundalike of various characters having phone sex with Justin. Yes like Lucy, Harriet is highly attuned to the extensive sexual activity now replacing the gaslighting. Roifield credits Smethurst with the affair between Kathy and DS Barry – but this happened some years later under the editorship of Ruth Patterson. It was during this period and subsequently that the balance of the programme changed and the women became dominant and steadily the males in the programme were less well defined and written. Harriet claimed she only had four items to discuss – but later proved she had pages and pages. Roifield asked for discussion points for men’s hour in a couple of weeks and so please send him some. Harriet is bored by cricket and prefers football. Graham Blockey is the alter ego of Robert Snell and is rarely available to the team as he is a GP in Dorking in Surrey which is...
