Andy Talks

Preaching revival at Chapel of the Cross UMC in Columbia, MS, I preach from Acts 7.  I share how God has redeemed and used all the tragedies in my life; my mother's murder, family losses, and even my recent cancer and health issues.  God can redeem and use all of life, even the hard parts, if we will let Him.  

In Nehemiah 2: 11-20, we look at Nehemiah taking and honest inspection of the wall.  It was in bad shape. It needed to be rebuilt.  Until we know where we are and where we stand, we can't fully rebuilt.  But we want to make sure we rebuilt to be who God is calling us to be, not rebuilding on nostalgia and what we used to be.  

In our Traditional message from June 19 we look at Nehemiah 2: 1-8.  Today we see that Nehemiah is motivated to rebuild the wall because he remembers his people. As we rebuild, we need to remember the importance of our community here, remember our mission, and remember how much we love each other.  

In our Traditional sermon from June 12, Andy shares from Nehemiah 1: 1-11.  We look at what happened after the exile to Jerusalem. The wall needed to be rebuilt.  It took everyone. Post COVID, we need to rebuild. We are a different church now than we were before.  To rebuild, it will take all of us. Will you be a part?  

In John 17: 20-26, we see Jesus pray that the church may be one. We don't often think about unity as an important virtue of the church, but we see how important it was to Jesus today. What does it mean to have unity, and how is that something we can do? 

In our message from our Traditional service from May 22, 2022, Andy shares with us from Acts 16: 9-15. We see in this passage that our job is not the be the hero and save the world, our job is simply to be faithful in join in what God is already doing. 

A uniform identifies what a person does or who a person is.  In our INTERSECTION service from May 15, 2022, Andy shares with us from John 13: 31-35.  Jesus tells us that the uniform we were, as His followers, is love. 

In our Traditional message from May 8, 2022, Mother's Day, Andy shares from John 14: 23-29.  What is it that holds our families together?  What is it that holds our church together? What are our birthmarks? 

In our message from April 24, Andy looks at John 20: 19-31. We look at Thomas and his doubt. We all doubt, but how do we learn to surrender to God's grace in the midst of doubt?

In our series "Last Words" we look at Jesus' saying on the cross - "It is Finished" in John 19: 29-30.  What is Jesus talking about here?  What is it that is finished?  

In our series, "Last Words" we look at Jesus' last words on the cross.  On Sunday, March 27, we look at John 19: 28 where Jesus says "I Thirst."  We see how this passage plays into God's larger plan to save humanity! 

In our INTERSECTION message from March 20, 2022, Andy shares with us from Matthew 27: 46.  We see Jesus cry "why have you forsaken me."  What we do not understand is that He is quoting Psalm 22. What does this Psalm have to teach us about the cross?
