Destiny - Where Your Character Leads You - PHYSICAL FRIDAY #43
17/01/2020 Duração: 07minThere is an example of character becoming destiny - imagine two boats. They are maybe in a race or setting out from the same port, and they look like they are going in the same direction. But they are a couple degrees off, and over time the boats start to get further and further away until they are out of sight. After enough time the two boats will end up in very different places. That is what this is about - the small changes that you make in your thoughts, words and habits will make huge differences in your character and your destiny. Learn more about your ad choices. Capt. Scott Brown - Hooked On Family #0102
15/01/2020 Duração: 01h13minI recently came across a video of a little kid casting under the mangroves and he catches a snapper while standing on a skiff. It reminded me of how I raised my kids and I reached out to Captain Scott Brown after watching this video of his son. I wanted to get him and his wife on the podcast, but it happened that his kids were also on the podcast. We talk about what it means to keep your kids outdoors and raise them in a wilderness environment. http://www.hookedonfamily.com - the hub of our operation, editorials and content on everything kid outdoors @hookedonfamily - instagram http://www.pushitgoodinshore.com - my weekend light tackle guide business @pushitgoodinshore - instagram Youtube channel - Hooked on family If you are wanting to join the fitness movement this year join the #TRPFitnessChallenge. Anchor Retrieval - HOW 2 TUESDAY #78
14/01/2020 Duração: 06minOften when I'm filming Into The Blue I am sitting on the anchor and waiting for something to happen. During this time I will talk with people like Jason Stemple and Jake Perry. On the last trip we were talking about different things that we could talk about on the podcast. One of the things that I took with me was eliminating twists in the anchor line. Some people might not experience this because you are using a certain kind of anchor or you are in shallow water. But one of the things that happens when you are offshore is you use an anchor retrieval ball. When you are set up with several hundred feet of anchor line it is very difficult to get right over the top of that anchor and just start pulling. You would just be pulling the anchor from the bottom up to the top and it would be a lot of work. So if you use an anchor retrieval ball, you can use the buoyancy of the ball to pull the anchor up. If you are interested in checking it out you can find one HERE. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone

Bryan Sears - 5 Days Into 20 For 20 - #TRPFitnessChallenge #002
13/01/2020 Duração: 06minA long-time listener of the Tom Rowland Podcast joins me today to talk about the TRP Fitness Challenge. Bryan Sears is 5 days into 20 for 20 and tells us about his exercises and how he gets them done while being a captain, guide and working for Mass Bay Guides. Bryan is a fisherman up in Massachusetts and also is big into fitness, so he was excited about the challenge and the comradery with the #TRPFitnessChallenge. Bryan’s mom owns a small gym and he has always been around a fitness lifestyle, but he was most excited about doing 20 days straight with no rest. Bryan’s family owns a charter company called Mass Bay Guides and he sometimes goes up into Canada for the Big Tuna which I would love to see one day. If you want to book Bryan or follow him on social you can visit @mbgbryan or @massbayguides. The January 20 for 20 fitness challenge is just 20 minutes of exercise a day, whatever it is, just do it for 20 days straight. If you are wanting to do the challenge you can tag #TRPFitnessChallenge, @tom_rowland

Joshua Medcalf - Pound The Stone - #0101
08/01/2020 Duração: 01h23minI came across Joshua Medcalf's work after hearing 2x CrossFit Games Champion, Katrin Davidsdottir reference a book called Chop Wood, Carry Water. I put it on the list and then quickly read that one and 2 more. Since reading his books, they have become the most gifted books of the year. I gave them to my children, friends and people I work with. Each of the recipients have as impressed with them as I was. We also had some other interests in common. Joshua recently returned from an Inner Mountain Excursion in Norway to learn more about the Wim Hof Method and much more. Link Joshua's story is quickly summarized below (from his website, www.t2bc.com) T2BC founder Joshua Medcalf gave up scholarships to law school to move across the country to live and serve at a homeless shelter in downtown Los Angeles. After six months of serving at the shelter he moved into the closet of a gym. It was there, 6 years ago, that Train to be Clutch started to take form through the simple mission of love people, serve people, and pr

Habits - The Daily Battleground Of Character - PHYSICAL FRIDAY #41
03/01/2020 Duração: 08minAs Dan Coats said, "Habit is the daily battleground of character." As we discussed that your actions form your habits, it is very important to monitor your habits because that will determine your character. Habits can be created and destroyed, but changing your character can be a long process. It is best to take small steps and look at your habits if you want to impact your character. Mark The Shark - The Darth Vader Of Sport Fishing - #0100
01/01/2020 Duração: 01h10minI have followed Mark Quartiano who is better known as Mark The Shark for a couple of years. To say that Mark is controversial is an understatement. Mark seems to relish the role as the bad boy of Sportfishing and referred to himself as the Darth Vader of Sportfishing. This was interesting to me because he also seems to have a lot of kind of contrary opinions and actions to being the badboy. For example, Mark has no problem killing big sharks and posting the pictures on Instagram, however after talking to him for a while I also learned that he has tagged more sharks than anyone in the world. He doesn't just kill sharks for no reason, they are sent to biologists or he takes them to the homeless shelter. I wanted to learn more about what made him tick so I took a chance and sent him a message. To my surprise, he responded right away and we set up the podcast even though he didn't know what a podcast was. When I met him at his iconic office in Miami it was literally jammed with shark jaws, pictures stacked 2 fee

Permit Fishing 101: Spinning Tackle And Techniques (Part 2 of 3) - HOW 2 TUESDAY #76
31/12/2019 Duração: 42minThere are many ways and methods that we can use to catch permit. In order to be successful in catching permit under all conditions anglers need to have mastered many skills with different types of tackle. I find that a fly rod and a spinning rod will cover most conditions but anglers who enjoy baitcasters can also have success. Spinning Tackle If an angler wants to maximize his chances at permit, the spinning rod is unquestionably the most useful tool available. The spinning rod allows anglers to cast small and large crabs, light artificial lures and jigs and live shrimp in every condition. In the Florida Keys, we experience seasonal changes that require me to alter my spinning tackle to optimize the conditions. For example, winter and spring conditions are often windy; a condition that allows guides to get very close to the fish before they become alarmed. The rough conditions camouflage anglers and boats contrary to the extreme calm. Spinning Rods It is in the windy conditions that I use a 7 foot medium ac

25/12/2019 Duração: 01h43minBrandon Cyr is a 4th generation Conch. A Conch is someone born in Key West, FL and there are fewer now than ever. Brandon developed the fishing passion at an early age and grew up into one of the best flats guides in Key West. I originally contacted Brandon to discuss his recent trip to Cuba. However, the Cuba trip took a back seat to his recent marriage proposal on his birthday, permit fishing and tagging bonefish. We finally got around to discussing Cuba and he filled me in on an amazing trip. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Permit Fishing 101: Seasons And Guides Featuring Captain Nick Labadie (Part 1 of 3) - HOW 2 TUESDAY #75
24/12/2019 Duração: 24minThe Lower Florida Keys are one of the very best places in the world to catch Permit on the flats. In order for Permit to be plentiful, they need the right temperature, food source, vast inshore and offshore habitat and structure such as wrecks, coral heads, and bridges. Best Seasons and Tides In the Florida Keys, the permit fishing is truly year-round. Of course, there are better times than others for permit, but anglers can feel confident that with enough looking, permit can and will be found. My favorite times of the year are Feb, March, June-November. The months of Feb and March coincide with the water temperatures climbing back into the comfort zone of the permit while also being just before the spawning season for permit. This time seems to be when there is a lot of permit on the flats and also when conditions are conducive to catching the fish on the fly. I look for post-cold front days when the sky is completely clear and the temperature is increasing for the best opportunities. The windy conditions t

Words - Control Your Tongue - PHYSICAL FRIDAY #39
20/12/2019 Duração: 16minThis is number 2 of a six-part series dealing with your thoughts, words and how it determines your success or failure. To start off we have a couple of quotes, this one is from Chad Wright: “Your tongue is your rutter, it will steer the direction of your life and the outcome of your situations 98% of the time.” Zig Ziglar says: “There is power in words, what you say is what you get.” Pierre du Plessis: “Words create worlds” It is very difficult for us to have complete control over our thoughts. Our thoughts often run wild and sometimes when you are in a difficult situation you have some thoughts that you might fail or you might think you aren’t good enough. Most of the time you can dismiss them, but there is a serious change when you speak that you are going to fail or that you “can’t do it.” Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your character, and your character determines your destiny. There is so much truth to that statement,

10 Cheap Things That Determine Success In Fishing - HOW 2 TUESDAY #74
17/12/2019 Duração: 11minI was in the boat recently with a couple of my friends, Jason Stemple and Jake Perry and we started talking about little things that make a big difference on fishing trips. So we each put our two-cents in on the things that are the cheapest and that might be the most important. If you could carry a couple of these items instead of just one, it would exponentially increase the enjoyment and productivity of the day. So here is our list of things that we think will make your fishing experience much better. Hook Remover: When fishing for kingfish or barracudas (or anything with teeth) you will need this. Roughly $12 to $14 dollars. You will want an extra one because they don’t float and you might lose it. I prefer the Hook Extractor from Bass Pro Shops. Wire Straightener: Probably the cheapest thing you will have on your boat, but this can be the most important for kingfish, barracuda, sharks or anything with teeth. If you have a leader straightener, $2 it can help you get back out there much faster. AFW Econo Wi

The Bonefish Rig Feat. Captain Joe Gonzalez - HOW 2 TUESDAY #73
10/12/2019 Duração: 06minWhatever industry you may be in, it is common to hear of the legends. Those people whose name continues to surface in conversations with other customers or competitors. In the inshore fishing business, Capt Joe Gonzales is one of those people. Despite working 150 miles away from one another, I heard Joe's name and stories on the regular. His reputation precedes him as a professional who might actually have some Bonefish DNA mixed in with his. Joe walked me through his Bonefish Rig, you can see detail instructions below with links to the knots the Joe is referencing: To start off Joe uses an 8-foot spinning rod - this gives him a little more distance, especially when fishing out of a Marquesa and the bonefish are more aware of Joe’s presence in such a large boat. With the 8-foot rod Joe is able to cast further and into the wind. Joe uses a light rod (light action) and uses a 20-pound-test and will tie it with a Uni Knot or a Clinch Knot. Then Joe will use an offset 2/o with a bait keeper. He will then bite th
