  • Return of Martial Movie Massacre

    26/07/2020 Duração: 49min

Send us a textThis year's editions of Martial Movie Massacre continue with even more content as we put to bed the myth that martial arts movies are largely responsible for martial art movie tropes and cliches. From "The Avengers" to "Bad Day at Black Rock" via the Eon James Bond franchise, the original Star Trek series and The Saint we look at the judo chop, the generic throw and the double-axe handle. These tropes and bad fight scene ideas emerged as Asian martial arts failed to get a foothold on the mainstream market until the 1970s, but once they were in place they would be hard to shake. Yet, if we look at an unsuccessful post WW2 movie, we note that things might have been different. Meanwhile, special guests, Peter Jones and Leigh Simms, deliver insightful and entertaining contributions on getting knocked out and heroes who break the law. Put down the gloves and pick up the pop corn!Show Notes: Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera You

  • Pinocchio's Valentine & the Handshake Hit

    13/02/2020 Duração: 32min

Send us a textThis episode explores possibly the most insidious area of personal security: falling in with the wrong company. Looking at the short and tragic life of the seventh St Valentine's Day Massacre victim as well as the way the oldest tricks in the book work consistently, even against the streetwise, we expose the importance of self-awareness. This is very much a part of the human condition and was something a native of 19th century Tuscany when he wrote the world's most published moral tale for children, Pinocchio. Self-Protection has long made the folly of dwelling too much on stranger danger when the risks to personal security are more likely to either come from those we know or our circle of influence.  Useful links for this episode:Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb Chimera InstagramJamie Clubb's Ebooks Massacre Victim StatisticsA Fatal Connection - Optical ConnectionsFind a Grave - Reinhart SchwimmerThe Adventures of Pin

    31/10/2019 Duração: 30min

Send us a textThis year's Halloween Special delves into the disturbing case of the Toolbox Killers. What lessons can we take from their terrible crimes? At first glance this seemed like a simple case of be wary of approaching drivers when walking alone and the dangers of hitchhiking. However, a closer examination reveals that all of the victims had some good survival instincts - the first one wasn't even hitchhiking - and clearly we need to provide deeper self-protection education for our young to safeguard against predators of this nature. Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb Chimera InstagramLast year's Halloween show on Burke and HareStreetwise by Peter ConsterdineThoughtCo's Article on the Toolbox KillersThe Historian - An Informal History of HitchhikingThe History of HitchhikingCharles Schmid - The Pied Piper of TusconDean Corll - The Candy Man Support the show Support the show Support me on Patreon Buy "When Parents Aren

    20/10/2019 Duração: 23min

Send us a textThe great grappling art moved strategically through Brazil towards North America, propelled by ambition and a drive to be successful. The schools were just accessible enough to permit a rush of middleclass students in South America and a select few Hollywood celebrities in California. There was little other motion other than raise attention through combative efficiency in challenge fights, reinforcing the art’s dictum; a message that would be shouted far and wide across martial arts subculture...This episode the Clubb Chimera Martial Arts podcast dives into the world of ground-fighting. At the beginning of the 20th century it was viewed with disdain by the martial arts world by the century's end Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a martial art that focused on submitting opponents on the ground, had become a worldwide sensation. • Vagabond Warriors Workshops July/August

    08/06/2019 Duração: 01min

Send us a textFinally the Vagabond Warriors Workshops are here! I am on here to quickly talk about my upcoming Vagabond Warriors martial arts cross-training workshops this summer. These three hour intensive training sessions will cover Clubb Chimera’s approach to cross training. Each workshop will focus on a certain martial art discipline or concept and then we will train different ways to use it to add to, replace, compliment or enhance techniques from other martial arts as they best suit you. We will be working primarily towards the incorporation of martial arts into self-defence or mixed martial arts, which allows quite a broad area to work. I will be limiting the number of students so that we have a more focused approach on training specific areas. These workshops were originally designed for my private clients as a means for meeting up, training with one another and setting personal goals, but I have opened it up to anyone who would like to attend allowing other martial artists who are interested in my w
