Shattered Lives: Duane Bowers on Cultural Trauma
17/12/2016 Duração: 01h02minThere is not much formal research to refer to on cultural trauma. When cultural trauma exists we see people picturing the worst with lack of control. We have lived through change before, but this time our culture has been assaulted. President Elect Trump's comments have given permission for us to change ours ways of thinking, acting and feeling, a huge cultural shift! Politics will change (including uniting racist change) but the trauma to our culture will last forever. Cultural shifts seem to come fast and furious. How do we feel safe? Minimize the personal effect; strengthen our relationships with cultural, non-profit groups we believe in, family, church. Stay in the moment , empower the individual. What will happen in four years? We may return to a much more traditional way of living. Duane Bowers offers his expert advice on how to survive this elected cultural shift.

Shattered Lives: Felix Nater discusses Active Shooters
10/12/2016 Duração: 01h00sBecause workplace violence prevention has been commoditized by sales people selling training videos, computer based training, active shooter training focuses on what to do "if" there's an active shooter instead of focusing on how to manage and prevent the transition from disgruntled employee to active shooter. This transition to homicidal violence is a reaction to a threat that inevitably results in death or injuries, too late. Our active shooter training is on what to do to minimize further risk during the shooting but not tied to prevention. There are 5 stages to the active shooter mindset that never gets discussed. While in support of police intention, they cannot influence the workplace implementation of policies, plans, procedures and training. Nater and Associates website: naterassociates.com

03/12/2016 Duração: 01h04minDr. David Fowler, Chief Medical Examiner for the state of Maryland returns to Shattered Lives to discuss the very important role that medical examiners play in public health matters. From the CDC: Each state sets its own standards for what kinds of deaths require investigation and its own professional and continuing education requirements for individuals carrying out these investigations. Shattered Lives: Author Lisa M. Buske, Where's Heidi: One Sister's Journey
22/10/2016 Duração: 01h03minAuthor of Where's Heidi: One Sister's Journey, Lisa M. Buske writes: "In 1994, my only sister was abducted while working alone at a local convenience store. The journey starts with an early morning phone call then details of the emotions, grief, and confusion felt in those first moments while transitioning through the days, months, and years that follow. A sibling's journey is different from that of a parent. Our role and feelings cannot compare yet they are just as important. Parents experience the greatest loss of their lives through the loss of their child and the emotional loss of the surviving children is just as traumatic. I lost more than my sister on April 3,1994 I lost my faith. Thanks to the boldness and faith of a child, I have hope and a story to share." Website: lisambuske.com
