Flight Attendant Fashion and “Rich Face” in View From the Top (2003) With Macy Eleni
15/11/2024 Duração: 01h45minTikTok thrifting queen and sustainable style icon Macy Eleni joins the pod to talk about one of her favorite films — 2003’s View from the Top, a lesser-known, underrated film from the early aughts, rom-com era. Gwyneth Paltrow is Donna, a small-town girl with big hair and an even bigger ambition to be a Chanel lipstick-wearing, first-class international flight attendant! Costume designer Mary Zophres (La La Land, Babylon, Ghost World) put Paltrow, Christina Applegate, Kelly Preston, and Candice Bergen in Moschino, D&G, Betsey Johnson, Versace, Escada, and DVF from the era, and every look is DIVINE! And the flight attendant uniforms range from sassy to sophisticated. This is a true, overlooked fashion movie that we are unearthing TODAY! We also discuss our love for Brittany Murphy, Gwyneth's "rich face," the power of pawn shop finds, and, of course, Macy's new book, Second Chances! Plus, so much more. Hot Topic Goth Corsets and Cozy Fall Turtlenecks in Urban Legend (1998)
01/11/2024 Duração: 01h39minWe bid farewell to October by having Halloween Queens’ Natalie Burris back on the pod to dissect the late ‘90s fashions of Urban Legend! This post-Scream slasher is stacked with the hottest stars of the era, with the killer terrorizing college kids by referencing Urban Legends. A super fun concept with great costume design by Mary Claire Hannan (The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Jackie Brown, Red Eye, Four Rooms!). We love the autumn-esque, Gilmore Girls vibe of Alicia Witti's final girl's turtlenecks, Danielle Harris as the goth roommate in all of her Hot Topic deliciousness, and Tara Reid's sexy looks as the campus radio host/sex advice columnist. Questions we have: was Sasha's (Tara Reid) Halloween costume somehow based on Tiffany from Bride of Chucky (it may have been filming at the same time?!), and was Niecy Nash's character in Scream Queens inspired by Loretta Devine in this film? Other discussions include Marie's JNCOs, The Substance (and Natalie’s incredible Halloween costume as The Star), the lack of go

Baby Bangs and Funky Florals In Scream 3 (2000)
25/10/2024 Duração: 01h15min"All I know about trilogies is that in the third one, all bets are off.” It may be the most controversial and hated of the franchise, but we love the campy, extremely meta Scream 3! Costume designer Abigail Murray gives us some super fun, highly underrated looks in the "Ghostface Goes Hollywood" third installment of the film series. We get into Sidney’s (Neve Campbell) relaxed final girl style and accessory ode to her dead ex, Parker Posey as the hilarious, stylish, cool-girl Jennifer Jolie, and, of course, Gale’s (Courtney Cox) bangs! We also spill the tea on Marie’s witchy Practical Magic birthday dinner, so be warned. PS. Don’t forget to leave a review! There may be a surprise you can find out about this episode... 11/10/2024 Duração: 01h18minThere is evil out there, and I'm gonna kick its ass! We’ve got a late ‘90s Halloween movie for y’all — Idle Hands! The one has a rare issue; there wasn’t a costume designer credit, but a kickass wardrobe department still put the cast in fun 'fits. We get into the [Devon] Sawassance and discuss his underrated, incredible performance in this movie. Hello, that hand acting? Oscar-worthy. We love you, Devon! We also discuss Seth Green as a ‘90s style icon, vintage bowling shirts, hesher style, and…Pornstar clothing (memba them?). This time, she created thoughtful and fashionable costumes for the Seattle teens in this reimagined Taming of the Shrew. Kim dressed Julia Stiles’s character in low-slung pants, cropped camo, and Frankenflops, opposite her sister’s (Larisa Oleynik) ultra-girly style. Heath Ledger (in his breakthrough role) got the stylish bad-boy treatment in custom-dyed tank tops and PVC pants. We also discuss the iconic prom looks, name the film’s Surprise Style Icon, revisit Andrew Keegan’s alleged cult (and then fantasize about becoming cult leaders ourselves). Pay Equity Now! With Costume Designers Ariyela Wald-Cohain and Whitney Anne Adams
26/02/2024 Duração: 40minDid you know that costume designers, the majority of whom are women, are paid nearly 30 percent less than other, male-dominated creative department heads? Despite costume design being a pivotal part of storytelling in cinema, it has been historically dismissed as “women’s work,” leading to the artisans being underpaid and under-appreciated in their industry. In this very special episode, we're covering the Pay Equity Now movement! Blaire chats with costume designers and friends of the pod, Ariyela Wald-Cohain and Whitney Anne Adams, who are co-chairs of the Costume Design Guild’s Pay Equity Steering Committee, about this important initiative. Boudoir Chic and 'Ringmaster Red' in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982)
19/01/2024 Duração: 51minY’all come back now, ya hear? In The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas movie musical, Dolly Parton is Miss Mona, the madam of the local Chicken Ranch, a historic and beloved brothel in a small Texas town. Sheriff Ed Earl (Burt Reynolds) helps out Miss Mona by looking out for the brothel, but the duo runs into trouble when TV personality Melvin Thorpe tries to expose the ranch. Dolly's outfits are a serious boudoir chic feast for the eyes, with ruffles, lace, feathers, sequins, and floor-length “ringmaster red” garments, costumed by the late, great Theodora Van Runkle (Troop Beverly Hills). As usual, we break down our favorite looks but also discuss Burt Reynold’s hunkdom (and how we’d cast Pedro Pascal in his role for our imaginary remake). There’s also chisme about Dolly and Burt hating each other during filming, so Blaire has a request for Ryan Murphy: to make the next installment of Feud be about their drama! Office Kimonos and Nameplate Necklaces in 9 to 5 (1980)
12/01/2024 Duração: 01h13minWelcome to Dollyuary! It’s Dolly Parton’s birthday month, so it was only natural that we kick off 2024 by paying homage to our country queen, Dolly Parton! We’re workin’ 9 to 5 and going REAL DEEP on the 1980 film’s costume design by thee Ann Roth. Violet (Lily Tomlin), Judy (Jane Fonda), and Doralee (Dolly) are all coworkers who have HAD it with their sexist jerk of a boss (Dabney Coleman), and things get out of hand after their revenge fantasy goes awry. There are serious layers to the ladies' costumes that you won’t want to miss. Before we get into the movie, we discuss Stanley cups, Jeremy Allen White’s Calvin Klein campaign, The Iron Claw movie (shoutout to costume designer Jen Starzyk!), and also play a message from a listener with a FAB gym bro vampire suggestion (from our Interview with the Vampire episode, if you recall....).
