No Stupid Question: Why is Luxembourg so small?
21/07/2023 Duração: 07minContrarily to what its name may suggest, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in the European Union. That wasn’t always the case: indeed, over a period of 250 years and 3 partitions, Luxembourg gradually but surely went from a surface of 10,700km2 to its current size of 2,586 square kilometers. On this episode of No Stupid Question, we will glance into Luxembourg’s past with the Musée Dräi Eechelen’s curator Simone Feis and answer the question: why is the grand duchy of Luxembourg so small?

Whine and Shine: Financial literacy in Luxembourg
17/07/2023 Duração: 10minIn the spring of 2023, Luxembourg for the first time participated in an OECD study on the level of financial literacy among the population. Considering the grand duchy’s status as a financial hub, the results were surprising: on average, the country scored 60 out of 100 on financial knowledge, behaviour and attitude, a score that was close to 50 when looking at adults aged 18 to 29. How can a country that has such a prolific financial sector not reflect this in its educational system? What is the danger of this and what solutions exist to solve the issue? Jessica Thyrion, a financial education adviser at the ABBL foundation for financial education, tells us.

Interview with Isabelle Marinov
30/06/2023 Duração: 15minSimon was joined by author Isabelle Marinov whose latest book, Henri and the Machine, hits shops on July 6th. When Isabelle was 9 years old, her parents gave her a red typewriter for her birthday. She began typing away, crafting stories in German and in Luxembourgish, her native language. Growing up, “writer” seemed like a non-existent job description. Isabelle studied law in France and in the US and got a "proper" job. But she secretly continued to write in the evenings and on weekends. After her first son was born, she returned to her lifelong passion––writing, and for the first time, she thought about it as a job. Isabelle speaks four languages fluently but for a reason that defies her, English is her preferred language for prose.

Interview with Jean-Jacques Schonckert
30/06/2023 Duração: 12minJean-Jacques Schonckert, president of Association pour le Droit de Mourir dans la Dignité Lëtzebuerg a.s.b.l., spoke with Simon about the work they do. The association was formed in 1988, on the initiative of the late Dr Henri CLEES and a group of determined idealists. Its objectives included the legalization of voluntary euthanasia and the guarantee of free choice of end of life which they hoped to achieve by raising public awareness and drafting a draft law. Their efforts have been rewarded by the signing of an agreement with the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region, entering into force on 01 January 2018, which allows the Society to create a professional structure for psychological support and accompaniment in adequate premises.
