  • 96 - Outed Scumbag Stephen Hill

    05/06/2020 Duração: 03h02min

**With #blacklivesmatter being a movement that has proved to be depressingly prescient in the last few days, Remfry and Steve decided that it was vital to cover the new album by Run the Jewels, despite receiving the promo after this week's show was already recorded. The original episode description follows** Steve and Remfry are joined this week by friend of the show Mr. Matt Stocks this week, who's on to promote his new book ... But that's not the ONLY reason he's on the show as he's also helping the Riot Actors to review new albums by 156/Silence, Katie Malco and The Weapon, plus he delves into the hatful of shit alongside Steve and Remfry, as they look back at Bush's 7th full-length album Black and White Rainbows See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. • CA07 Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible | Part 1

    01/06/2020 Duração: 02h50min

In the first part of a double Classic Album Series, Steve and Remfry look back at Manic Street Preachers third album The Holy Bible. The boys talk about the mindset of the band going into recording, from the death of their manager Phillip Hall to the pressure the ever growing cult surrounding enigmatic guitarist Richey Edwards put on them, and the general feel of alternative rock in 1994 in the aftermath of the death of Kurt Cobain. They then deep dive into the record itself, picking apart the themes and ideology of what is certainly one of the darkest, most nihilistic and disturbing albums in the history of popular music, before retracing Edwards steps after his mysterious disappearance in early 1995. • 95 - Minty Milk You Mad Geets

    29/05/2020 Duração: 02h18min

Technical difficulties have hindered our (Remfry's) ability to review new albums this week, but we didn't want to let you down so we cover three new releases this week (as opposed to the usual 4) by The 1975, Mrs Piss and Antethic. In Broken Records, we delved deeper than we've ever ... devled, as we go in on Blood, Sweat and Towers, the 2006 debut album from Towers of London See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. 'Wild-one-eyed Stephen Hill' and 'Two-perfect-working-eyes Remfry Dedman' present their second catch-up show of 2020, and this week it's the perfectly sighted Remfry Dedman's turn to choose. They review new(ish) records from the likes of Mogwai, Sparta, The Ditch and the Delta, BAMBARA and Jarboe. Broken Records covers the MTV Unplugged session from Ms. Lauryn Hill, the 2002 follow-up to her critically acclaimed The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. • CA06 Glassjaw - Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence | Part 1

    18/05/2020 Duração: 02h32min

It's Remfry's pick for Classic Album's and finally, he's getting the chance to dive deep into the full-length debut album by Long Island post-hardcore heroes Glassjaw. Remfry ties himself up in knots trying to describe how much Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence means to him, whilst Steve manages to approach the album from a slightly more balanced viewpoint (although he does think it's bloody brilliant!) They discuss the 7 years leading up to the release of the album, how it fit in (or rather didn't) with everything else going on around it in heavy music, the fallout with Roadrunner records and the controversy surrounding the lyrics. Oh and they also discover that Daryl Palumbo was in Busted! (sort of).  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. • 93 - Captain Rock & The Rock Boys

    15/05/2020 Duração: 02h45min

It's our first catch-up show of the year, something which you'll likely be seeing more of over the coming weeks considering all the major records are being pushed back in release schedules due to ... well, ya know. Remfry and Steve review new albums by Moby and Paradise Lost and catch up on records by The Strokes, Mark Lanegan, Therapy? and Bear. There's also a short tribute to Richard Wayne Penniman, AKA Little Richard and another short tribute to Brian May's buttock See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. • 92 - Eeuuuwwee XIV

    08/05/2020 Duração: 02h08min

In an uncharacteristic move, Steve and Remfry are singing Paramore songs, probably due to the release of the debut solo album by Hayley Williams, which is reviewed alongside new albums by The Hirsch Effekt, Winterfylleth and Fake Names. Meanwhile Broken Records is laced with a thin film of smut as the boys dissect Slick Dogs and Ponies, the third and thankfully final album by perma-erect San Diego rock band Louis XIV See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. 01/05/2020 Duração: 01h58min

Steve and Remfry are reviewing a veritable feast of new releases this week by the likes of Car Seat Headrest, Gold Key, Flies Are Spies From Hell and Umbra Vitae, whilst our broken record comes courtesy of arena rock behemoths Queen (and Paul Rodgers) with their 2008, 16th studio album 'The Cosmos Rocks'. • 90 - A Brass Rubbing of Oasis

    24/04/2020 Duração: 02h26min

Another week, another episode of friction and tension between the boys Riot Act, as Remfry and Steve review new releases by Trivium, Elephant Tree, Elder and Katatonia, as well as throwing in a review of Fiona Apple's 'Fetch the Bolt Cutters' an album that, since its release last week has garnered such strong critical praise, it seemed remiss not to cover it in some fashion on the show. Elsewhere, there's an insight into John Dolmayan's opinion on whether we'll ever get new System of a Down material (don't get your hopes up) and our Broken Record this week is Famous First Words, the 2011 debut album from insipid indie stardom-seekers Viva Brother See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. • CA04 Radiohead - OK Computer (0110) I Part 1

    20/04/2020 Duração: 02h19min

It's about bloody time Riot Act discussed Radiohead, the critically-lauded British art rock Oxfordians who changed the face of modern music forever. Seeing as we've never really talked all that much about them on the show before, Remfry greedily picks two albums which may (or may not) be interlinked in a manner that conspiracy nuts go crazy for.  This first part concentrates on the undisputed classic OK Computer, the band's third album released 21st May 1997. Routinely considered one of the best albums of all time, Remfry and Steve discuss the impact the album had on a music scene in flux, the arduous recording process, the band's legendary debut headline appearance at Glastonbury, the 1998 documentary film Meeting People is Easy, the hacked Minidiscs scandal that erupted in 2019 and more. There's also an interesting and somewhat surprising diversion when talk turns to Steven Spielberg's Jaws and 70s BBC sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Part 2 is available over at our Patreon -

  • 89 - A Blanket of Nihilism

    17/04/2020 Duração: 02h17min

There's a charged frisson of disagreement regarding a couple of the records this week with reviews of new releases by Enter Shikari, Oranssi Pazuzu, The Black Dahlia Murder, Sugar Horse and Wild Cat Strike. But that's nothing compared to the righteous anger of Ticketmaster customers, after the US website discreetly changed the wording of their terms and conditions to state that customers could only get a refund if shows were completely cancelled, a pretty contemptible move at a time when so many shows are being postponed (rather than cancelled) due to the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19. Steve and Remfry wag their fingers and drag the ticket giant to the naughty step, but should the same punishment be dished out to Bob Dylan for his widely-derided 1970 album Self-Portrait? The boys discuss that and more for this week's Broken Record.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. • RR10 Massive Attack - Mezzanine

    14/04/2020 Duração: 36min

Steve and Remfry discuss 1998's Mezzanine, the third and most commercially successful album from Bristol Trip-Hop trio Massive Attack. The album heralded a far darker, heavier edge for the group and caused fractures within their ranks. But it undoubtedly became a milestone for a very brief but interesting scene that has influenced many different musicians way beyond the electronica sphere.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. • 88 - Little Billie and His Silly Willy

    10/04/2020 Duração: 01h46min

Steve's upset this week at the thought of having to review the new double album from Nightwish ... but should he be? There are also reviews of new albums by Azusa, Dool and Vasudeva and Broken Records covers the 2004 sophomore album by indie 'house' boresters Dirty Vegas See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. • S20 - ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead

    08/04/2020 Duração: 29min

Steve and Remfry chewed the fat with Conrad Keeley and Jason Reece, the core duo behind alternative art rock band ... And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead ahead of the penultimate show of their lengthy European tour. Seeing as it's their 25th year as a band, the Riot Act boys took the opportunity to ask them questions pertaining to their entire career, as well as drill down on the making of their new album X: The Godless Void and Other Stories See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. • CA03 Pink Floyd - The Wall | Part 1

    06/04/2020 Duração: 01h54min

It’s Steve’s pick for a classic album this week, and he has chosen to finally dip into an album that we here at Riot Act have been threatening to do since the very inception of the podcast; Pink Floyd’s 1979 prog-rock opera The Wall. In the first part of our mammoth 2 part look at the project, we are joined by Haggard Cat man, friend of the podcast and Pink Floyd megafan Matt Reynolds. The boys discuss their various feelings about the band, their previous work, the lead up to the record (including blow by blow accounts of the Roger Walters meltdown that inspired the album), the various problems that the band encountered during the writing and recording process and the result of it all. One of the most famous, iconic and divisive albums ever created.
