Nipsey Hussle's business partner, David A. Gross, took to Instagram to reveal the longstanding battle that he, Nip, and Blacc Sam had with the city of Los Angeles over The Marathon store. He shared a letter sent to him from Deputy City Attorney Nancy Hagan who essentially tried to blame them over some of the issues in the Crenshaw district. "The Los Angeles City Attorney’s office was trying to end us. Literally. They wanted to expel The Marathon Store from Slauson Plaza. No doubt, if Nipsey was alive they’d still be stalking it, after doggedly pursuing him, his brother, his team and his businesses for damn near a decade. To no avail," he wrote. PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The victim in a deadly drive-by shooting over the weekend in Southwest Philadelphia has been identified as 21-year-old Ezra Weah, also known as rapper Bankroll Gambino, his manager tells CBS3. The shooting happened outside of a home on the 2600 block of Carroll Street Sunday night as a group of about 10 men were about to start shooting a promotional video for the rapper’s social media page. Weah moved to Philadelphia from Liberia when he was 5-months old. Police say Weah was shot in the head and killed, and five other men were rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. “I cannot understand what happened, why they had to shoot, who did it, we have no clue. We have no idea who did it,” Weah’s aunt, Francis Tailey, said. Los Angeles law enforcement is expecting a big turn out in front of The Marathon retail store. TMZ reports there will be 100 officers in the area. The meetup will presumably be a celebration, therefore violence isn’t expected, but the LAPD is taking precautionary moves. Nipsey’s estate has not officially announced any plans for the late rapper’s birthday. Earlier this month, it was reported that the Los Angeles Police Department launched an investigation Nip and his associates prior to his death, but they claimed that he wasn’t a target. Rapper Tay-K sentenced to 55 years in prison for deadly robbery (CNN)Texas rapper Tay-K was sentenced to 55 years in prison and a $21,000 fine Tuesday on a murder charge for a 2016 robbery that left one man dead, according to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office. The Tarrant County jury also sentenced Tay-K, whose legal name is Taymor McIntyre, to 30 years in prison on one count of aggravated robbery and 13 years for each of the remaining two counts of aggravated robberyThe sentences will run concurrently, a court clerk said. The 19-year-old was found guilty of murder last week in the death of a 21-year-old father in the incident. Tay-K was one of seven defendants, CNN affiliate KTVT reported. The other six either were found guilty or reached plea deals, according to KTVT. A North Texas jury found Tay-K guilty of murder Friday morning, CBS Dallas reported. The 19-year-old rapper faces between 5 and 99 years in prison for the 2016 slaying of Ethan Walker during a home invasion. The jury previously asked to see evidence presented when the medical examiner testified about the 21-year-old victim. The group took another look at autopsy photos, as well as the single bullet that killed him. Walker was shot in the stomach after he told the rapper and a group of other robbers that he didn't have any drugs or money. The rapper, whose real name is Taymor McIntyre, wasn't the person who fired the gun that killed Walker, and his attorneys argued that was one of the reasons he should be found not guilty. The man who shot Walker was sentenced last year to life in prison. Prosecutors have said McIntyre was charged with murder because he recruited the triggerman and organized the robbery. R. Kelly is relieved to be in solitary confinement as he awaits trial on federal sex-crime charges against underage girls because he fears for his life behind bars, according to a report. The accused pedophile’s lawyer, Nicole Blank Becker, told TMZ that when she visited him in federal prison he told her his life would be in grave danger if he was kept with the general population. But Becker also noted that the rapper has no one to lean on in the slammer while in solitary, adding that he finds everyday tasks difficult, including deciphering what’s on the commissary list because he’s illiterate. He also only has access to a phone for a total of 15 minutes a month to speak with his family and friends, while inmates in the general population can make calls whenever they want, according to the site. Nipsey Hussle was praised by the LAPD as a peacemaker in the wake of his death -- a hero of sorts in his community for trying to stem gang violence -- but it turns out the very same police department was secretly investigating Nipsey for possible criminal prosecution for alleged gang activity. The probe was centered around Nipsey's Marathon Clothing store in South L.A., as a possible hub for gang activity ... this according to The New York Times. It's a stunning development, because the LAPD was both investigating Nipsey and embracing him at the same time. He was set to meet the LAPD Police Chief the day after he was murdered, to discuss gang violence. What's more ... a few years before his death, the City of Los Angeles was trying to pressure Hussle's landlords to evict Nipsey from Marathon Clothing ... this according to The NYT. As it turned out, Nipsey bought the building with some investors. Although the City can no longer prosecute Nipsey, the City continues to investigate Nipsey's business partners.
