    The Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria to grant Bureaux De Change operators digital autonomy to achieve exchange rate convergence. The President, ABCON Dr. Aminu Gwadabe, called on the apex bank to grant a no-objection approval for the BDCs to fully go digital on all their operational correspondences. He says the move would promote rate convergence, curb volatility in the market and promote economic growth. He noted that granting digital autonomy to the operators, would lead to a true market rate discovery, enhance the achievement of the Federal Government harmonised foreign exchange rate policies, and promote effective monitoring of BDCs’ transactions for statutory and regulatory requirements.

HMS Trent’s mission is to support West African allies helping countries to develop capability to fight illegal crimes at sea and ensure they can play an effective role in bringing stability to wider West Africa. HMS Trent’s Commanding Officer, Commander Tim Langford, says is an honour for HMS TRENT to return to Nigeria, an important visit on the Ship’s three-month deployment to West Africa.

He says the naira is not an internationally convertible currency and a gap of not more than N50 should not worry the apex bank. Lemo stated that the gap had presented huge arbitrage opportunities. He further stated that there might be some issues with some of the government’s monetary policies.

  • Niger Reopens Airspace Weeks After Coup

    Niger's junta says it has reopened the country's airspace to commercial flights. Niger is more than twice the size of France and is the second-largest landlocked country in Africa, covering an area of 1,270,000 square kilometres Niger's rulers did not give an immediate explanation for the move to reopen the country's airspace. Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, says that Niamey hoped to reach a deal with ECOWAS. He however also underscored the junta's intention to defend itself if the bloc proceeds with its threat to mount a military intervention.
