The 23nd anniversary commemoration ceremony will take place next week in Manhattan at the WTC Memorial Plaza, focused as always on an in-person reading of the names of the 3000 souls lost in the tragedy, by family members and friends who like all of us will never forget. But what of the people that were inside that somehow made it to the outside and live on today? Our friend and head air cargo guy for Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is one of those people. Today Jim Larsen who was ex Seaboard World Cargo when he became the second and so far greatest most innovative airport cargo executive you ever met lives quietly by himself in Lakehurst New Jersey about an hour from New Yok City. In December 2020 as the world held it's breath under the global threat of the deadly infecting COVID-19 , came the air cargo industry leading the way in delivering the antidote to millions. Based on the job air cargo did for getting COVID vaccine to people all over the world the great expectation based on general knowledge amongst the masses was that maybe finally our industry and particularly the USA would embrace wider spread induction of freighters. As India inches closer to the ambitious target of 10MMT of air cargo handled per year by 2030, one question that is being asked is: Why are there so few freighter operators from India? One of the major reasons is the high belly capacity available in India. Around 80 percent of cargo traffic is carried on passenger aircraft. Today, Blue Dart apart, there are only a handful of freighters carrying the India flag. In The Lav of a DC9 With Donald Trump When Donald Trump bought the old Eastern Airlines Shuttle, that had served Boston and Washington with hourly flights, he came to LaGuardia Airport to launch the newly branded Trump Shuttle, in the form of an old DC9 that waited quietly outside at the gate bound for Washington. The Donald stood at the check-in gate greeting the press. I was there as the Trump Shuttle flak came to my office at Air Cargo News FlyingTypers in the Marine Air Terminal and asked me to attend the event. "Look I need numbers, maybe we could comp you to stay a few days on us at The Trump Taj Mahal AC in Atlantic City that he owns!" I said we don't gamble but took sympathy and jumped aboard the airport bus to the main terminal. Something good for LGA and New York City was the larger calling during those days.

Eduardo and his team from Coral Gables, Florida have changed the way to pay shipping cargo forever, all over the world. Mr. Del Riego began his career with Crowley Maritime starting inoperations, then sales, to line management running Crowley's Dominican Service from Jacksonville.      When Sirius would appear in the sky just before the sun, in July, that marked the beginning of the very hottest days of the year.     The Romans referred to this period as "dies caniculares" or "days of the dog star," which was eventually translated as just "dog days."     Too hot to handle?     Now that the world seems warmer and that last trade show of the first half of 2024 was over at PVG last week, we are counting the ‘Dog Days’ as July 4th in America approaches Thursday wishing all A SUPER SUMMER 2024!     At home we look at our four-legged friends with some passion whilst they continue to do what they have always done best as great spirits looking up every time, we enter the room and no matter what, asking us the same question with longing in their eyes:     “What’s up?” they always want to know.     Lulu, our faithful companion (pictured here), could not be described as a wonder dog, that’s for sure.     No heroics on tap for July 4th either.

Mr. Obermeyer is an expert who has a wide horizon on the global labor market in logistics; a first-class consultant who works with la crème of logistics in Europe. Born and grown in Basel, he completed his apprenticeship in freight forwarding after his “Matura”, i.e. the college certificate valid in Switzerland. After positions in Schenker and Danzas, world famous in those years, Andreas started to work in consulting in 1997, since 2001 in HR executive search and personnel consultancy. Sentimental journey... We recall the life & times of a great Chilean air cargo pioneer Alex Thiermann. In Normandie as that big D-Day gathering today June 6 will see return of DC3s above the skies above the coast of France ,we visit friends and family there. Some years since we journeyed to Bernay in Normandie and relived some WWII memories with our Uncle Claude who recalled D Day through the eyes of a child. As preamble , it needs to be noted five years ago there were maybe 250 veterans of that day visiting aboard a tour from England and this year there were only maybe 10% of that number on the same tour.

“CONFETRA,” said our senor contributing editor Marco Sorgetti based in Rome,” is an interesting report on the state of air cargo in Italy. “For me this was a great opportunity to report comforting numbers from my home country, albeit with some alarming signs.” This gave us reason to take contact with some of our friends by hop scotching around the world with the aim to understand difference and similarities, through a series of short statements regarding the state of air cargo in their respective areas.
