    This week we speak with Rickey Gates, a Salomon Athlete, via phone. Rickey shares his story about running from coast to coast. Rickey writes: "From March 1st to August 1st, 2017, I traversed the width of America - from South Carolina to San Francisco. My 3700-mile-long route took me on trail, road, river and snow. I ran through plains, desert, mountain ranges and cities. Snow, rain, wind, heat, sun and darkness. Mostly, I ran alone, but occasionally some friends would join me. I am currently processing this trip - in words, photos and how I anticipate it to effect me in the future. For much of the past fifteen years I have been traveling to every corner of the globe. I sort through photos and find myself running a Norwegian ridge line, ascending a volcano in Uganda, sleeping alongside my motorcycle in Tierra del Fuego, floating the Amazon on a banana boat.     This week we sit down with Lizzie Diener. Lizzie's adventures began early in life. After graduating from high school at the age of 17, she hiked the Appalachian Trail. Before she had turned 20, she had solo-hiked the 2,600-mile Pacific Crest Trail. At some point along her journey, Lizzie fell in love with birds. Her interest and desire to learn about them has, for the most part, directed her path. And what a path it has been! She has participated in 17 projects and studies with various universities, research institutions, and scientific organizations that have taken her all over the world, from Australia to Alaska, and from Hawaii to Maine. She thrives on being in the field, working, learning and contributing. What would she do in her free time? Why, explore beautiful rivers, of course! Lizzie canoed 1,000 miles on the Mackenzie River in the Northwest Territory of Canada. In addition, she kayaked for 76 days and 2,000 miles through the interior of the Yukon Territory and Alaska. In 2018, she spearheaded the relocation of the organization’s Nashville office to the historic Glen Leven Farm, rooting the organization in a place that embodies both its vision and mission. Shortly after Hound Ear Chad and Jim formed the series known as the Triple Crown. Three Bouldering Comps in three states has now become one of the biggest series in the United States. The goal of the Triple Crown is twofold. First and foremost, the mission is to raise funds for two organizations dedicated to maintaining climbers' access: the Southeastern Climbers' Coalition and The Carolina Climbers' Coalition. These two organizations have been instrumental in the acquisition of land for the climbing community, in a region that is riddled with access issues. Secondly, this unique event will once again provide a tremendous opportunity for vendors to promote the sport of bouldering, which has quickly become the focus of the ever growing climbing community.   • "Wood" Work

    Rick Wood worked for The Trust for Public Land (TPL) form 2000 to 2017. He cast a vision, designed parks and trails, raised capital, and managed construction. In 2008, TPL kicked off the conservation of a 100-acre ridge that was threatened by development in North Chattanooga: Stringer’s Ridge. TPL went on to design mountain bike and hiking trails on Stringer's Ridge which has now become a beloved part of Chattanooga’s park system. Rick was also able to negotiate and close over 35 land acquisition deals for greenway development, known as South Chickamauga Creek Greenway. Additionally Rick and TPL assembled over 5,000 acres along the Cumberland Trail near Cumberland Gap National Park. Rick's leadership at TPL is one of the cornerstones that has made Chattanooga what it is today. Thanks for listening!
