We're coming up on the 30th anniversary of the day Stevie Ray Vaughan passed away tragically in a helicopter crash. At the time he was clean and sober for three years; looking and sounding better than ever. He was just beginning a whole new phase of his life both personally and professionally. Sadly that phase would be cut short. In this episode we'll celebrate the amazing music he created by revisiting his album 'In Step' which was released on June 6th, 1989. The Rolling Stones "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction" was released on June 6th, 1965 in the US, August 20th in the UK. It was The Stones first #1 in the US and it stayed at the top for a full month that summer. It would go on to be ranked by Rolling Stone as the second greatest song of all time behind Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone". Pretty much every Rolling Stones fan will tell you that their greatest period came between the years 1968 and 1972. In fact, many music journalists will say it’s one of the greatest runs in rock and roll period. Four legendary albums came during that time – 1968’s ‘Beggars Banquet’, 1969’s ‘Let It Bleed’, 1971’s ‘Sticky Fingers’ and 1972’s double album ‘Exile on Main Street’. This episode of DISCovery will center on ‘Sticky Fingers’ which was released on April 23rd, 1971. On May 8th of ‘71, it hit number one in the UK. This episode of DISCovery is all about rock’s first great double album – Bob Dylan’s ‘Blonde on Blonde’ from 1966. In fact, it’s the first double album ever released. This album came at what was Bob Dylan’s creative peak. As he told Rolling Stone in 1969, “I was going at a tremendous speed at the time of my ‘Blonde on Blonde’ album. Goin' back to the spring of 1975 for an often overlooked Led Zeppelin album - 'Presence'. The album started a two-week run at #1 on May 1st, 1975. The album was recorded in short time while Robert Plant was in a wheelchair recovering from a car accident.
