New Alcohol Guidelines, Mocktails and Toronto Congestion
18/01/2023 Duração: 52minLibby Znaimer is joined by Dr. Peter Butt, Co-Chair of the project to develop Canada's alcohol guidance, Dr. Kevin Shield, scientist with CAMH's Institute for Mental Health Policy Research and Dr. Erin Hobin from Public Health Ontario whose focus is on warning labelling. Canadians got new guidance on alcohol consumption this week and the recommendation is that no amount of alcohol is safe and that it's risky if you have more than two drinks per week. One of the things that the report says is that if you have three to six drinks on a weekly basis, your risk of developing cancers like colorectal and breast cancer increases. More than seven drinks a week increases risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. The report found that as many as 17 per cent of Canadians drink 3-6 drinks on a weekly basis while 40 per cent drink more than this a week.
