    The small routines and habits that combine into the overall system of our life is what makes our goals into reality.  Most people start the process of change by thinking about the outcomes they want to accomplish. How much weight do I want to lose? How much money do I want to earn? But I think it is often more useful to focus on the type of person you wish to become: your identity that will have you achieve your desired outcome. The way to change outcomes is to focus on identity changes; so it’s not about eating less, or eating more healthy, as a behavior—but rather that you are now the type of person who eats better.

One of the reasons we don’t have self-discipline is because we run from the hard, uncomfortable things. We would rather do the easy, comfortable, familiar things. One small task at a time, push yourself into discomfort. See how it feels. See that it’s not the end of the world. See that you are awesome enough to handle discomfort, and that the results are well worth it. When you have discipline you can have anything you want!

    We are the creators of what we think and feel; if we can nourish a limiting thought or belief, then we can just as easily do the same for a non-limiting one. If we can build walls in our mind that obstruct our progress, then we can definitely knock them down. Self-doubt is a silent serpent that creeps into the patterns of our thinking and eats away at our self-belief. The miracle and magnitude of our soul does not contain self-doubt. We are the ones that open a door for it to walk through.

It is important to have vision and purpose because it helps make our decisions that create our lifestyle. Discovering your vision isn’t that hard. Each of us is put here on earth for a purpose. We want to achieve and accomplish certain things during our lifetime, and for most of us, the passion we feel deep down ignites us and brings our hopes and dreams to the surface. What are you deeply passionate about? What type of work do you find engaging and truly enjoy? If someone were to describe you, what words would you want them to use? At the end of your life, what will be the greatest accomplishment?

    Yo-yo dieting starts when someone restricts calories one-way or another. This includes restricting carbohydrates, fat, bread, gluten, or meat, and the result is usually a few pounds or more lost. Then, because of the extreme calorie restriction, they eventually indulge in whatever it was that was missing from their life, and eat more than they would on a usual day  The guilt from an unsuccessful diet puts an emotional drain on a person and decreases self-esteem. Then, because of the weight gain, they will put themselves back on a “diet”.  The process is up and down with not only weight but also emotions. I have found more success with weight loss clients by avoiding “dieting”. Instead, create a lifestyle plan with a weight loss goal, and more importantly, a goal for a healthier lifestyle that promotes longevity and disease prevention.  It also helps increase mental health by decreasing the emotional drain caused by being “on a diet”.
