WGBH Early Edition - Thursday, May 21st, 2020
21/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood Thursday morning from Joe Mathieu and our WGBH Morning Edition team. We used to call this “Little Friday” but we’re still a bit confused on what day it is each time we do this. Joe is flying his dork flag this morning on news of the long rumored Justice League director’s cut being released, coming soon to a streaming service near you. There’s all sorts of unpleasant updates on the Covid-19 numbers and unemployment, but weather numbers are looking great, and maybe we can all forget our troubles for the next few days and get out there and (safely) enjoy the weather. We appreciate all of our listeners and Facebook viewers, especially now during our Spring mini-pledge drive. Thanks as always for listening to and supporting WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday, May 20th, 2020
20/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood Wednesday morning from Joe Mathieu and our WGBH Morning Edition team. The weather is about to turn warmer, and its arriving just in time… as we wallow in the mire of quarantine and the ongoing pandemic, a little reprieve in the form of some warm sunshine is just what the doctor ordered. One Facebook user wanted to know if there’s any good news out there, and darn it, the weather warming up is about as good as its going to get this week. We’ll get you updated on the latest numbers and the Massachusetts and City of Boston re-opening plans. We appreciate your listener support during our Spring “mini-pledge” and thank you as always for waking up with WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday, May 19th, 2020
19/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood Tuesday morning from Joe Mathieu and WGBH Radio’s Morning Edition team. Today begins the re-opening of the State of Massachusetts, but it will be a slow, cautious roll-out to make sure we don’t see another spike in Covid-19 cases. Each step will be slow and deliberate, at least three weeks for each phase, so if you’re planning on hitting your local bar you’ll probably be waiting awhile. The President is on drugs… well, at least he says he is - with no word on the safety or effectiveness of said drug. And today begins WGBH radio’s mini-pledge drive… please help support us and donate if you can so we can continue to bring you our award-winning news coverage. Thanks as always for listening to and supporting WGBH.

WGBH Early Edition - Monday, May 18th, 2020
18/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood Monday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Today was another benchmark day for re-opening Massachusetts, and we do expect to hear some details on it today, but the actual beginnings of the re-opening won’t start until at least tomorrow. As details begin to trickle out, it appears you’ll be waiting at least a week for that haircut or manicure. Brendan has taken up and invested a bunch in a new hobby, but his parents and family will reap the benefits of his gardening before he ever will. And the President did what he does best this week, tweet catch phrases at news organizations. Thanks for starting your week with WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Friday, May 15th, 2020
15/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood Friday morning from Joe Mathieu and your friends on the WGBH Morning Edition crew. Friday still hits differently on quarantine, but most of us are very happy that the “threshold of the weekend” has arrived. Big news for one team member that involves a puppy… because puppies solve everything. Meanwhile the real world news isn’t great as usual… lots of issues out in Michigan as their governor literally has to fear for her life, prompting Joe to wonder if Governor Baker also needs more security. But the weekend is here and hopefully we can put some of that out of our minds and safely enjoy the good weather. Thanks for waking up with WGBH Radio, enjoy your weekend.

WGBH Early Edition - Thursday, May 14th, 2020
14/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood Thursday morning from Joe Mathieu and WGBH Radio’s Morning Edition team. As we continue on through this crisis, people are starting to be more at odds with each other, and that prompted Joe to tell some undeniable truths this morning… namely, if we’re all in this together, we better start acting like it. Its Joe’s more tame “Network” moment according to Brendan. Wisconsin’s going to be opening up earlier than expected thanks to their Supreme Court overruling their governor. And we think we’ve found the perfect occupation for a stay-at-home world, but there might be some stiff competition to land it. Hang in there everyone, and thanks for tuning in to WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday, May 13th, 2020
13/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood Wednesday morning from the Murrow award winning WGBH Radio. Joe Mathieu and our Morning Edition team are hard at work from home getting another morning of news and local features ready to go, but first we join you live on a Zoom chat from Facebook to give you the best 10 minutes in radio. Big happenings in the Covid-19 Senate hearings yesterday as we begin to review our response to this pandemic, even as we continue to try and get it under control. Locally many restaurants, venues and drive-in theaters are eager to get their businesses up and running, even if its under new restrictions and social distance guidelines. We’ll update you on that and more as we get you ready to tackle your day. Thanks as always for waking up with WGBH’s Morning Edition.

WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday, May 12th, 2020
12/05/2020 Duração: 12minHello and welcome to Tuesday from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Governor Baker has a plan, and it looks like we’re close to it finally coming to fruition. It’s a four part phased plan that begins with very strict rules in phase one, but its the first sign that Massachusetts businesses may soon be able to open again. Joe will miss his favorite Gelato spot in Chestnut Hill, which announced it won’t be re-opening as “the new normal” doesn’t fit their business model very well. And the President was challenged about testing numbers during his availability yesterday, resulting of course in him storming off the stage. Same story, different day. Stay home and stay safe, we might be getting there real soon. And thanks for joining us on WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Monday, May 11th, 2020
11/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood Monday morning from Joe Mathieu and the entire WGBH Early Edition team. We’re still at home, nothing changed on that front, but for our New Hampshire division (aka Shelby) life will begin to re-open today… more on that coming up on Morning Edition. Mother’s Day went down yesterday with many a hitch, as Karen couldn’t even find french fries to satisfy her motherly craving. Brendan and Joe did the now famous “drive by and wave” visit for their mums. And Joe is worried because he’s approaching the apex of his “happiness curve” and is a little worried about it. Stay safe and thanks as always for joining us on WGBH.

WGBH Early Edition - Friday, May 8th, 2020
08/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood Friday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition crew. Snow? In May? It may just happen this weekend, with a side helping of some near record cold temperatures. Perhaps the universe is trying to tell us something as golf courses will finally reopen in Massachusetts today just in time for the unseasonable winter-like weather. And Mother’s Day is this Sunday… with restaurants closed, will you be cooking brunch from home for your Mama? We have the latest pandemic news and what other popular events have been cancelled for this summer. Hang in there and enjoy your weekend… and thanks again for waking up with WGBH.

WGBH Early Edition - Thursday, May 7th, 2020
07/05/2020 Duração: 12minWelcome to Thursday morning from WGBH Radio’s Morning Edition crew. He’s been promising to shower us in music, and this morning Joe Mathieu delivered… risking the ire of his family by getting loud at 4:50AM, our musical accompaniment this morning is provided by Joe’s guitar. Who needs a closing song when you’ve got Joe Mathieu to play us out? We catch you up on the latest Covid-19 happenings around New England including whether Massachusetts golf courses will finally re-open… and whether that restriction has actually stopped every golfer from doing it anyway. Thanks as always for waking up with WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday, May 6th, 2020
06/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. It’s another “Work from home Wednesday” as we once again ZOOM in for Early Edition to get your day started. Today begins the mandatory mask protocols for the State of Massachusetts, including for children under 5 years old... its definitely going to be a challenge for a lot of parents to keep those masks on. The disruptions to the food supply have now hit the fast food industry as one in five Wendy’s restaurants is out of beef and is only serving chicken. And Joe gives us some interesting trends from dating apps, and it makes us question whether quarantined singles are really staying safe. Thanks for waking up with WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday, May 5th, 2020
05/05/2020 Duração: 13minGood Tuesday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition crew. Hope you popped your head out the door this morning and caught the meteor shower like Karen did, although her wish is still forthcoming. Strange gathering outside the State House yesterday… not necessarily for the message but for the complete lack of masks and social distancing protocols amidst the crowd’s chants of ‘hoax’. A new report on drinking in the time of Covid-19 is out, and the big winner is apparently tequila. At least we’re staying festive while locked inside. We’re getting there but we’re not there yet… hang in there everybody and thanks for listening to WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Monday, May 4th, 2020
04/05/2020 Duração: 14minGood Monday Morning on this “Star Wars Day” from Joe Mathieu and WGBH’s Morning Edition team. This weekend was epic, especially yesterday, with our first real taste of Spring weather… Sunday was even downright summery. We’re happy to report that despite the great weather, our team saw most everybody observing social distancing and wearing their (soon to be mandatory) masks. This week’s weather won’t be quite as nice, but still better than the April we just came out of. The President held a “town hall” at the Lincoln Memorial last night, which came off as another ‘made for his supporters’ tv moment. At least two more weeks to go in Massachusetts, let’s stay strong and handle this together. And thanks for waking up with WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Friday, May 1st, 2020
01/05/2020 Duração: 11minHappy Friday from WGBH and our Morning Edition team. The weather is dicey this morning but hang tight, once these rain clouds clear out today we’ll be getting a reprieve from the damp and cold… something we could all use to help boost our spirits as we welcome the month of May. Joe Mathieu and our crew review our Amazon order history from this month as we discuss their record sales and profits from April. Plus one member of our team has just lost her home TV, sure to be a challenge with so many children home from school. Stay safe out there as we get outside to enjoy the changing weather… remember to keep up the social distancing and stay safe. Thanks as always for tuning in to WGBH.

WGBH Early Edition - Thursday, April 30th, 2020
30/04/2020 Duração: 13minGood Thursday morning from WGBH Radio’s Morning Edition team, zooming in to you live from our homes. Joe Mathieu is up early again with some cravings he can’t control… he needs fried clams and he needs them now. Governor Baker has stopped short of requiring MA residents to wear masks in public, instead opting to allow municipalities to decide on a town by town basis. However Mayor Marty Walsh is not pleased with the amount of runners and cyclists around Boston that have not been masked up… but as our crew mentions, its not particularly easy to exercise in a mask. Meanwhile at BU there’s a new kind of Higher Education scandal that involves cheating, Cliff Notes 2.0 if you will. Thanks again for waking up with us on WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday, April 29th, 2020
29/04/2020 Duração: 13minGood Wednesday morning from WGBH News and our Morning Edition team. Joe Mathieu and the crew are up early again live from their living rooms to update you and get your day started. Boston Magazine’s top 100 list is out, and we have the results, although the top spot is a topic of debate among this crew. And while we didn’t make the list, potentially to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest, we’re pretty confident WGBH’s Morning Edition landed at #101. Massachusetts will remain shut down until at least May 18th, a two week extension from the previous guidelines issued by Governor Baker. Hang in there people, this too shall pass. And as always, thanks for joining us on WGBH’s Early Edition.

WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday, April 28th, 2020
28/04/2020 Duração: 12minGood Tuesday morning from Joe Mathieu, WGBH Radio and our entire Morning Edition team. Still stuck in our homes, but we’re eagerly awaiting word on the re-opening of Massachusetts. Consensus among us is that May 4th is probably still a bit too soon… Mayor Walsh apparently agrees. Being stuck at home has caused many of to rekindle our love for old hobbies, and discover new ones. Baking and cooking in general seems to be a common theme for this crew, reading is also strong on our lists. The weather isn’t helping our moods much this week, but it just might be helping by keeping us inside and safely socially distanced. We’re hanging in there and hope you are as well… thanks as always for joining us on WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Monday, April 27th, 2020
27/04/2020 Duração: 13minGood Monday Morning from Joe Mathieu and our entire WGBH Morning Edition team. Back at it again on a Monday, as Karen rejoins us after a long weekend with the family. President Trump has himself an angry weekend that included cancelling future White House press briefings (for now at least) and lashing out at the world on Twitter. Saturday Night Live had a Boston angle this weekend with the return of Keenan Thompson’s Big Papi character. Plus Brad Pitt gave us an homage to Dr. Fauci. And we’re all noticing very inconsistent mask protocols across Boston during our excursions outdoors. Thanks once again for waking up with us on WGBH Radio.

WGBH Early Edition - Friday, April 24th, 2020
24/04/2020 Duração: 12minGood Friday morning from WGBH Radio, Joe Mathieu and our entire Morning Edition team. We’re still ZOOMing in from our homes for Early Edition, but we think we worked out the kinks and are thankfully back up on Facebook today. Yesterday might’ve been the strangest press briefing yet, as President Trump spitballed some new “treatments” for Covid-19, including injecting ultraviolet light and disinfectants directly into one’s body to try and fight the virus… advice that pundits and his own response team doctors quickly shut down. Friends… we’re definitely living in strange times. Wash-out weather today, but Saturday is looking up at least. Stay home, stay safe, and thanks once again for making WGBH part of your morning.
