"There's been no openly transgender women at the top level, until now, I think the threat to women's sports in general is probably overstated,"  The IOC's medical and scientific director said those words this week as LGBTQ history continues to unfold at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The IOC is set to revamp its policies on transgender participation after these Games end. What could it look like? What effect could it have? What should be considered in these changes? Dr. R. Nick Gorton is trans, a physician, and has been a consultant on trans health and sports since 2005. He was a consultant to the NCAA when they built their policy in 2011.
