Sound doctrine and sincere love should define our faith. Or to state the main point negatively: Heresy and hypocrisy should NOT define our faith. What is the opposite of sound doctrine? Heresy—that is, false teaching. What is the opposite of a sincere love? Hypocrisy—that is, false living. We don’t want to fall into liberalism or legalism. Liberal theology wants love without doctrine—which is so dangerous. Legalism wants theology without love—which is equally dangerous. Instead, sound doctrine and sincere love should define our faith.
