I’ve witnessed several eclipses and every time I find it odd that while the sun is being blocked by the moon, we have to wear sunglasses. If the sun rays are directed at me, why must I be shielded from them? It only takes a few seconds to figure of a staring out why. It’s impossible, even only for a few moments to stare at something so bright.  As John begins his account of Jesus‘ life, he encourages us to stare directly at the Son, uninhibited by any obstruction.
