Emily T Gail Talk Story

I met Isaiah McKinnon, Deputy Mayor of Detroit to Mayor Mike Duggan in the 1970's. I had opened Emily's Across the Street next to the London Chop House. Isaiah was a Detroit Police officer and we were part of his area. He was always so supportive of our efforts to create activity in the area that had been drained of tenants and people by the opening of the Renaissance Center. When we created the Emily Detroit Run, Isaiah totally got our intention to showcase downtown Detroit. We (Emily's) were supporters of the Detroit Police All Stars Athletic Team. For years I've had taped to my wall a photo of the team including Isaiah in 1980 proudly wearing "Say nice things about Detroit" t-shirts at the Police Olympics in Toronto. I've stayed in touch with Isaiah over the years.
