Choosing to adopt a rescue cat creates challenges. Spirit was abandoned by his mother, had to forage for food and learn how to survive on the streets with bigger cats, cars, and other dangers. He was lucky. A kind man found him, his brother and sister, and turned them over to a shelter. When Kac adopted Spirit, he had to leave his siblings and adapt to a new life. When we have a rough start in life, as Spirit did, we bring emotional scars and fears with us. Through deep listening, empathy, and patience, Kac helped him go “from street life to the sweet life.” Kac looks at their first year together from her perspective and from Spirit’s perspective.
