"Why are we still fighting certain veterans groups in court? Because they're asking for more than we are able to give right now." Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said those words during his town hall in Edmonton on Thursday. He was referring to the Equitas lawsuit, which sought to restore and protect disability pensions and benefits for veterans but was struck down late last year. Now the veterans and legal team behind the lawsuit are looking to take their class action complaint to the Supreme Court of Canada.
