It's claimed the eyesight of hundreds of Clare children is deteriorating due to a lack of professionals available to treat disorders. New figures obtained by Aontú show that 718 children in this county are waiting up to a year for Ophthalmology appointments. Currently, Clare has 13 optometrists contracted to provide medical card services, which has led to calls for them to play a greater role in providing non-surgical care to curb the backlog.
