A Clare TD is accusing the Government of failing to treat workers who look after the most vulnerable in society with respect. It's been revealed those who escort students with special needs on school buses are paid €13.40 a week which is 20 cents below the minimum wage. Kilrush Independent TD Violet-Anne Wynne raised this matter with the Education Minister last Tuesday and although she was told a response would be issued within five working days, she has yet to receive a reply. Deputy Wynne says it's extremely frustrating to see what she believes to be evidence that the State doesn't value essential workers.
