Neely had threatened to kill passengers while riding the New York subway when Penny stepped in and restrained him via a chokehold. Neely died shortly after. While many legal experts believe it was bizarre Penny was even charged with a crime in the first place, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez condemned the jury’s decision and said Penny belongs in prison. Meanwhile, following the verdict, Black Lives Matter activist and founder Hawk Newsome shamelessly called for vigilante justice for the death of Neely.
