“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you a future filled with hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) This familiar verse we have heard and claimed as God’s promise for our lives was received much differently to those who first heard it in the midst of the Babylonian Exile. Was this a verse of hope for God’s people of the exile? Can it be a verse of hope for us today? And just what can we learn from the “Weeping Prophet Jeremiah?”
